Bronx is Burning... would love to get this linked to Planned shrinkage for obvious reasons, but I can't get my brain around how to do it smoothly. Any ideas? --Knulclunk (talk) 14:02, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As it is written now, the subheading says "For the period of heavy fires in the Bronx in the 1970s on which the TV series is based, see planned shrinkage § New York City". The problem with this is that the TV series appears to have been based on Mahler's title with a focus on the Yankees organization and its struggles, rather than on municipal disinvestment. Additionally, there appears to have been no concensus on this change made by former editor Ego White Tray. —Spintendo (talk) 21:26, 24 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Cosell[edit]

This article from 2007 convincingly argues that Howard Cosell did not say the quote that has been ascribed to him, and that was used as the title of this programme. It will be interesting to see if someone can dig up a clip of Cosell's original quote, e.g. on Youtube. -Ashley Pomeroy (talk) 21:19, 20 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That above link appears to be dead. According to the NY Times source in the article[1], Cosell did say it. Remember, Wikipedia's main policy (or one of the main policies) is "verifiability, not truth." – Muboshgu (talk) 20:11, 15 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

And this NYPost source[2] says Cosell didn't say it. WP:V requires reliable sources, not saying you "own the DVD" or whatever. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:35, 15 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I honestly don't understand why people still think Cosell said that line. The complete 1977 World Series is freely available on DVD, and the Game 2 broadcast is presented in exact detail. At no point during that game (or any other game) does Cosell ever say "The Bronx is burning". (None of the other broadcasters say it either.) The DVD *is* a reliable source, isn't it? That's verifiable - anyone who wants to check it out can go and buy the DVD. Linked articles to the NY Times, or any other source, don't count, since they do not contain recordings of the actual broadcast. Only the DVD does. (And in any case, why is the NY Times' article, inaccurate as it is, accepted as gospel, and yet the Post isn't?) Mr. Laser Beam (talk) 01:04, 16 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The clip of his actual quote is on Youtube, under ID # bnVH-BE9CUo.[1]Spintendo (talk) 21:37, 24 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
