Logo displays badly[edit]

If anyone knows how to add a background to the logo to get it to display properly, please do so. Thanks! - Sdkb (talk) 02:40, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

To add to article[edit]

Basic information to add to this article: what "Talisk" means. And is it related to Talisker (the whisky)? 76.190.213.189 (talk) 01:54, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Drums?[edit]

Does this band have a drummer? If not, why do drums appear in videos of this group that appear on YouTube? 76.190.213.189 (talk) 01:54, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

No, they are and always have been a trio. Perhaps you have found a video of them with a guest drummer, but all the videos I get in a YouTube search show the three players: concertina, fiddle and guitar. Monxton (talk) 13:10, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Requested updates[edit]

Passing along a request I received off-wiki from Mohsen Amini (the band leader):

I wondered if you could help us update the wikipedia slightly?

We have a new member so would you be able to update that list to have Charlie Galloway on Guitar and Graeme Armstrong as a previous?

Also can you update the start date of the band to 2015. We never officially launched as a band till then and with our 10 year anniversary coming up we just want to make sure everything makes sense :)

Adding my 2¢, this seems like a straightforward, unobjectionable request. The 2014 start date was sourced, but on searching I also see e.g. [1] that says 2015, and with conflicting sources it's reasonable to defer to the subject's preference. The member change hasn't garnered media coverage yet (that I found), but as straightforward info can be sourced to the band's announcement [2] under WP:ABOUTSELF. • When ready to proceed with the requested information, kindly change the Edit COI template's answer parameter to read from |ans=y to |ans=n. Thank you! Regards,  Spintendo  03:39, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Spintendo, see diff. Sdkbtalk 04:06, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, but please place the information here on the talk page. Regards,  Spintendo  04:15, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Spintendo: The linked diff contains an exact record of the requested changes in X to Y format, making the implementation a matter of copy-and-paste, and the discussion above contains a full rationale. Assuming you know how to read diffs, I'm not sure what additional information you need, but if anything remains unclear lmk. Cheers, Sdkbtalk 05:31, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please keep in mind that depending on how an editor's diff page is set to display according to the settings made in whichever skin they use, not every display is conducive to copypasting the text from diffs. Additionally, copying text from a diff page viewed in the Wikipedia app is next to impossible, whereas copying text from a talk page entry on the app is like chewing gum—it's very simple. I just thought you'd like to have these changes made as quickly as possible, given the limitations of my technology. If you'd like these changes made now, you can supply the text here, or you can wait for another editor. Either way it's fine by me. Regards,  Spintendo  02:49, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Talisk are a Scottish folk band composed of Mohsen Amini, Benedict Morris, and Charlie Galloway. The band rose to prominence after winning the 2015 BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award and the MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards "Folk Band of the Year" category in 2017.

History
Talisk were formed in 2015<!-- some sources say 2014, but band has clarified that their start date was 2015 --> with Mohsen Amini, Hayley Keenan, and Craig Irving. Irving left to join Mànran, and was replaced on the guitar by Graeme Armstrong. That year the band won the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award. Following this Amini became the 2016 BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician. The success of the band continued to grow into 2017 where they were awarded "Folk Band of the Year" at the MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards. Amini then followed to be named the 2018 "Musician of the Year" at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. Their debut album, Abyss, was released in 2016, and their second album, Beyond, was released in 2018. That same year, they received the Belhaven Bursary for Innovation in Scottish Music, the largest music prize in Scotland.

Neil McFadyen of Folk Radio UK described their music in a review as having a "driving, fiery" sound. "It's hard to think of [another] band that has achieved so much and made such an impact on the trad music scene in their first three years," he wrote. "They just keep piling the energy into the music, and it's energy that sweeps their audience right along with them."

A 2015 article on the same site by Johnny Whalley noted that "their music draws on the Irish as well as the Scottish tradition and generally cracks along at a lively pace with concertina and fiddle vying for the lead, driven by Craig's guitar. The musicianship is phenomenal, the enthusiasm infectious and guaranteed to put a smile on your face."

Talisk are a purely instrumental band. Rob Adams of the Herald Scotland noted in a review that "in the absence of songs to vary the mood and tempo, they employ passages of reflection and trance-like motifs or offer a quiet melodic introduction."
