Park Plaza Hotel[edit]

Is it true or legend that the slight leaning of the Park Plaza tower at the corner of Bloor & Avenue Rd. is due to Taddle Creek running below it?--dunnhaupt (talk) 23:14, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think this is unlikely. On some building sites you can see excavation to bedrock. On other building sites you will see these rotary hole diggers. They drill out a hole about 80 cm in diameter -- again to bedrock. In some other cities builders are allowed to drive piles. But it is noisy, and the shock waves can cause damage to nearby buildings. I am sure there is some minimum height before the building code requires foundations straight to bedrock. Geo Swan (talk) 00:31, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Discharge?[edit]

I changed the discharge to correspond to what the map on the Taddle Creek web-page shows. It shows the discharge just east of where the King Street turns about twenty degrees to the North. That is at Parliament. The Don River currently empties into the Lake about 500 metres East. Originally the Don River emptied into a large marsh, where the portland are currently found. The marsh was filled with landfill, from construction. The mouth of the river was canalized and moved East, to just West of Cherry Street. Geo Swan (talk) 00:50, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
