Thanks. I don't immediately see a "nut graf' in either one — something better to quote than Beard's assessment, or a pithy characterization of his career. Most reviewers don't have the gravitas to provide a big-picture assessment, and whittle away at specific points. The interesting classicists are always wrong in some way; they have intuitions.
