Bullfighting[edit]

Bullfighting is about as much a sport as origami. It is not a contest. In Spain it is seen as an 'arte'. I'll give this a week, if no one challenges it, I'll remove it again. It is one of the silliest misconceptions about Spain and it really shouldn't be perpetuated on wikipedia. Famico666 16:04, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I realize that bullfighting is considered an art; that it does not fall into the same set as soccer or swimming. But it is an activity which requires physical exertion, and has a set of rules or customs which govern it, and these are the basic requirements for calling an activity a sport. If you object so strongly, and want to correct this misconception, then you are free to add to the section in order to clarify its status. Basketball should have a special mention as well. The ACB is the strongenst league in Europe, the average salaries of a pro-basketball player are the highest of all sports in Spain except football. The Spanish national team is the World Champ and Spain has some stars performing in the NBA. It requires a special mention.

I agree, and almost the same can be said about Spanish handball. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.4.21.47 (talk) 09:36, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Basketball and handball have been added.

I agree with Famico. I am removing bullfighting on the grounds that, yes, it is defined as an "art" and, most important, it lacks one of the defining traits of sport such as competition among players. Mountolive all over Battersea, some hope and some dispair 12:37, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bullfighting IS NOT A SPORT[edit]

Yes, for the simple reason that there is no competition. Nothing more to say. Change this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.145.16.10 (talk) 12:11, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bullfighting shouldn't be classified as a sport OR an art. It's neither. I don't believe that intentionally killing animals is an "art", more like "abuse".

ANIMAL ABUSE[edit]

People tantalize a bull with a pierce of cloth to the point where it looks like it's going to tare the bullfighter to shreds (and the poor thing has every right to do so) but its too exhausted to do such, sounds more like torture if you ask me but sadly others think differently. If only more thought like us we could start a riot and protest to STOP such savage behaviour. Shame we can't.

If I ever went to a bullfighting match, the first thing I'd do would be to call RSPCA.
