In metro Sydney?.[edit]

According to my (admittedly 10 year old) copy of UBD Sydney, the local government boundary goes down the middle of the main channel of the Hawkesbury River, leaving Spectacle Island to its north, in the area of Gosford City Council and hence outside metro Sydney. However the GNB web site (as quoted in references) explicitly states the island is in Hornsby Shire and hence (by the rules in the article List of Sydney suburbs) inside metro Sydney.

As the GNB is on the face of it the later source, I have assumed the boundary has moved since 1995 and gone with the GNB information. But I'm not very convinced; the boundary in my UBD seems such a natural boundary and it would seem perverse to move it just to include an uninhabited island. Can anybody throw any light on this?. -- chris_j_wood 09:35, 15 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

As I mentioned at Talk:List of Sydney suburbs, the GNB entry cannot be considered a later source (gazettal was in 1976). For local government boundaries, I think the GNB LGA maps are generally up to date, but I'd go with the Department of Local Government site [1] - they might have strange lists of suburbs, but they're the authority on the LGA boundaries. Both of these sources have Spectacle Island in Gosford, with the boundary as you describe. (And no, a parish is not the same as a suburb - the parishes are not used in general, like the counties. The GNB map puts it in the suburb of Mooney Mooney.) JPD 11:39, 15 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
