The Movie Show

While the article re: The Movie Show may intially seem POV as it comes from the ABC, the article itself is fairly unbiased, carrying comments from the head of the SBS. - Aaron Hill 10:56, 4 Jun 2004 (UTC)

SBS User Template

For any of you users out there who watch SBS, and want a template on your user page that shows it off, I created one here. Feel free to make use of it and edit it as you please. Black-Velvet 10:23, 7 March 2006 (UTC)

New Advertising Structure

The upcoming new advertising scheme (http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5478,19333870%255E662,00.html) should be worked into the article at a suitable point. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.63.61.34 (talk) 2006-06-03T13:47:34 (UTC)

Liberal Bias

I see nothing that gives referance to the stations blatant left wing bias.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.226.231.85 (talkcontribs)

SBS aiding other networks

The article says "... SBS came to the aid of other networks (mainly the Seven Network) by broadcasting the 2004 Athens Olympics and the 2005 Ashes Test Matches (Cricket)."

Is that a valid statement to make because it is a stretch to say that SBS hosted these events to aid the other networks, in fact I highly doubt that's why they did it. I would say that SBS did it to get the ratings :) Akamad 01:30, September 10, 2005 (UTC)

SBS, like the ABC, will maintain that it doesn't care about ratings. It only cares about being relevant to the sections of the community it is designed to serve. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.72.165.220 (talk) 2006-09-17T07:06:08 (UTC)

Gold Logie Nominations

Has a persons from SBS been nominated for the Gold Logie? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.164.199.138 (talk) 02:26, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Overseas 'World Watch' news bulletins

The overseas news bulletins shown on SBS under the 'World Watch' branding are NOT subtitled (either on digital or analog television). From the SBS website: "With such time constraints it would be impossible to subtitle the 17 different languages broadcast in WorldWatch. The delay would mean that the news bulletins would be outdated by the time they are ready for presentation." SBS FAQ's - World Watch I will ammend this. --Mgill 06:46, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

SBS TV

SBS TV content moved to article: SBS TV. --Stickeylabel 12:39, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

EPG!

Shouldn't the bit about the "Electronic Program Guide" be changed to Video Program Guide, there is a major difference. Whitehornmatt 01:14, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

What Station?

Pretty trivial question, but I was just wondering what station (on the television that is) SBS is officially connected to. I've always accociated it with station 28, just as I've always accociated ABC with station 2. Though I have no idea why. Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks. --Dark_Wolf101 02:11, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

SBS is on 28 in most capital cities so that's a reasonable association to make. Channel 1 is also somewhat common. timgraham 06:44, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Sexuality

The additional comment "This relaxed attitude to sex ... (particularly among teenagers) seems superfluous, given that the information was already written previously, it also creates a generalisation that is unusual for an encyclopedia.Sumthingweird 21:54, 4 January 2006 (UTC) -- Yeah, i was going to comment on the talk page about the amount of sex and what not on SBS. Now i know wikipedia is against original research, but it seems that SBS is a bit infamous for the sex, and i have often heard it being called SBS: Sex Broadcasting Station. I think a small comment should be made in the article if someone would do it... 58.6.43.107 (talk) 06:55, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

More on SBS History

This article needs a lot more on SBS Radio and SBS's history (particularly it's founding and the influence of Omni) matturn 06:21, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I agree. Try the new reference I've added, under the ref name "history_of_sbs_multiculturalaustralia_edu_au ":
"Brief History of SBS" (linked from listing at [2]) in Making multicultural Australia: Teacher and student resources on multiculturalism, cultural diversity and tolerance by the Office of the Board of Studies (New South Wales, Australia), the NSW Department of Eduction and Training, and the University of Technology Sydney.[1]
This whole Wikipedia article on SBS seems to rely too much on SBS's own material. (And, admittedly, my suggested reference, above, is cheifly drawn from that source, also. But it's at least carrying the imprimitaur of its august official panel of developers.)
Also, a search of these sites, for anything on "SBS", seems to be very productive:
I'll leave it to others to mine those sites for further info or documentation for use in this Wikipedia article.
~ Penlite (talk) 03:31, 1 January 2018 (UTC)
I've found another source, which I've cited in the article with the ref name "inventing_sbs_2007_ach":
Hawkins, Gay (University of New South Wales) and Ien Ang (University of Western Sydney), "Inventing SBS: Televising the Foreign," 2007, ACH: The Journal of the History of Culture in Australia, 26: 1-14, Taylor & Francis, Australia.
It takes great pains to be a "different" history of SBS, focusing on how SBS developed, operationally, apparently:
"we want to take seriously the idea that multicultural television had to be invented, and investigate how complex and complicated decisions in the early days of SBS TV often had more to do with exploring and extending the possibilities of the television medium than with the social policy of multiculturalism. [emphasis added for clarity ~ Penlite]
May provide more material for this article.

Increase Awareness of Government Funding

80% of SBS's funding comes from the Australian Government, and so I do not think the term "hybrid" in the Lede is accurate. Example if the "hybrid" nature of the funding more evenly split between the various sources, or if the ratio was closer to 50:50, I wouldn't have a problem with it, but since mostly all of the funding comes from the Australian Government, then the word is mostly misleading.Tym Whittier (talk) 22:25, 6 May 2019 (UTC)

I changed my mind and now disagree with myself. I think "hybrid" works, but the fact that 80% of the SBS's funding comes from the Australian Government should be included alongside the word "hybrid" to show where most of the funding comes from.Tym Whittier (talk) 03:01, 8 June 2019 (UTC)

LGBT propaganda

Can there be mentioned that this Australian TV news station is part of promoting LGBT values? A random article that I've just found. There is a comment here from 2006 mentioning so-called "leftist bias" (no idea how left-wing is connected to LGBT though, but it's commonly assumed so). Maybe add this bit if properly sourced?--Adûnâi (talk) 13:23, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

The word "propaganda" doesn't even appear in the page you linked. There is nothing actionable here. There is nothing here at all. --DanielRigal (talk) 17:50, 10 October 2019 (UTC)

Slogan

Ok, i removed the unsourced slogan again which was added again and again by 122.105.167.25 (talk · contribs · WHOIS). In the official site's FAQ it used [SBS] new slogan was the long-running 'Bringing the World Back Home'. (bold added by myself). Matthew hk (talk) 06:52, 21 October 2019 (UTC)

And see below section #Copyvio or circular referencing?. May be the slogan is true, but there is circular referencing problem, on when the slogan was introduced. Matthew hk (talk) 01:17, 22 October 2019 (UTC)
