Statement "Smart locks, like the traditional locks, need two main parts to work. The lock and the key. In the case of these electronic locks, the key is not a physical key but a smartphone ..." is arguable. As smart locks have their own computer "brain", they can, and do, provide some automation of (un)locking, based on other events than presence of key-like device. --Mykhal (talk) 01:21, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps, in this case "key" should include even broader meaning. The thing why people stay to this concept "lock + key" is obvious I think. It's easier to understand the technology. Hulia Today (talk) 10:59, 11 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
