Free to Be You and Me

Would be nice to see a writeup on her duet with Jack Cassidy for FTBYAM. They were the only husband and wife team to participate as singers, to my knowledge, and it was an important pop culture moment, that album.64.131.162.17 (talk) 14:30, 17 May 2009 (UTC)ClaireNYC

It's mentioned briefly in the discography section. Caden cool 15:16, 19 December 2013 (UTC)

First mother/son pair?

"..., the first time a mother and son starred together on Broadway." I find that difficult to accept. Does anyone have an earlier example? Amorrow 16:44, 5 August 2005 (UTC)

In her book Shirley Jones: A Memoir published in 2013 this is what Jones claims to be true. She claims she was the first mother to star on broadway with her son Patrick Cassidy. Caden cool 00:00, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

Birthplace

Where did she grow up, Smithton or Charleroi? I see sources for both in other places. Mike H. That's hot 00:12, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Jones grew up in Smithton. Caden cool 15:16, 19 December 2013 (UTC)

Lawsuit against National Enquirer?

If I remember right, she and her husband Marty Ingles filed suit against the National Enquirer for defamation of character, and won. This ought to be included in the article. --Chris 16:10, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Yes, the citation for that case is 465 U.S. 783. It went all the way up to the Supreme Court for an issue regarding California jurisdiction over the author and editor of the story. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.159.155.67 (talk) 15:58, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
If you need a ref for the lawsuit, Miss Jones talks about it in her book Shirley Jones: A Memoir. Caden cool 23:52, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

"Playboy Magazine" Stage Production??

Something called "Playboy Magazine" is listed under the category "Stage work." No reference is made to this in the rest of the article and I can't find anything about it anywhere else. It is linked but it just links to the article on the city of Chicago for some reason... I assume it is baloney but I would like some verification, please. Bobnorwal (talk) 05:05, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

A bit of vandalism from Jan. 8. Thanks. Clarityfiend (talk) 05:43, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Quotes

These quotes may or may not be worth transferring to Wikiquote, but they certainly don't belong here:

Shirley: "It's astonishing to see how many of these Hollywood big-wigs are trying to undermine President Bush." (Source: USIMDB.com)

Shirley: "My policy is just one step at a time." (Source: A&EBiography.com)

Shirley on her on- and off-screen chemistry with David Cassidy who played Keith Partridge: "He came to respect me, he loved me, and vice-versa. We had our moments, because David had some disciplinary problems. He would show up late for work on Mondays, and keep the whole crew waiting, you know, for hours, and not to my liking or anybody else's. So, that had to be addressed and it was, until we got to know each other." (Source: A&EBiography.com)

Shirley on how winning an Oscar changed her life: "Some people pooh-pooh the Oscar. My career had been over because they weren't making musicals anymore. At the time, it was thought that if you were a singer you couldn't act." (Source: USIMDB.com)

Shirley on The Partridge Family: "The show killed my movie career." (Source: USIMDB.com)

Shirley on why she withdrew her divorce petition against Marty Ingels: "You don't throw away 27 years. You just don't." (Source: USIMDB.com)

Shirley after divorcing Jack Cassidy that Shaun became the man of the house: "It was a horrendous time, when I was going through the divorce with Jack, think I leaned on, certainly Shaun, because he was the oldest and perhaps, you know, it wasn't right to do so, but he was the oldest and he accepted the responsibility, because he was an old soul." (Source: A&EBiography.com)

Shirley on the end of her marriage to Jack Cassidy: "Jack had a breakdown. A real mental breakdown. He was manic depressive. But he was the one that wanted the divorce. He thought it was better for me and the kids. I never did. I would have hung in there. I felt in many ways he was acting strangely and doing strange things and he felt perhaps it was better for all of us." (Source: USIMDB.com)

Shirley on the death of Jack Cassidy: "He was a very, very strong force in my life. As a matter of fact, I never fell out of love with the man." (Source: A&EBiography.com)

Shirley on if her voice was good enough for her to participate in South Pacific: "I sang for their casting director, and he asked 'What I've done, where I've been?!' I said, 'Nothing, I've been there a week, and he couldn't believe it!' He said, 'Would you mind waiting for a little while?' He said, 'I would like Mr. Rodgers to hear you, himself.'" (Source: A&EBiography.com)

Shirley on the cancellation of The Partridge Family: "I was very worried about David, because as I said, he'd showed up on a Monday with no sleep, becoming terrified with the fans, becoming terrified with the press, wanting to hide his trailer, every minute." (Source: A&EBiography.com)

Shirley on Jack's outrageous behavior, in his own way: "Drinking was a part of his life, partying was a part of his life, other women were a big part of his life, but everything that he did, I thought was right, I never questioned him!" (Source: A&EBiography.com)

Update

Charleroi's location

Charleroi is not a suburb of Pittsburgh; they are not even in the same counties. Charleroi is in Washington County whereas Pittsburgh is in Allegheny County. Places such as Whitehall and Baldwin are suburbs of Pittsburgh. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 166.147.104.32 (talk) 19:17, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

I have removed that phrase. Although, a city doesn't have to be in the same county to be a suburb. --Musdan77 (talk) 03:46, 30 August 2013 (UTC)

Birth name

For some unexplained reason an IP removed her middle name from the article. Her full birth name is Shirley Mae Jones so I restored it. Miss Jones states her full name in her recent 2013 autobiography. Caden cool 15:45, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

Any reason?

Why was the "Early life" heading changed to "Youth"? I reverted it until someone can explain. Caden cool 03:48, 23 June 2014 (UTC)
