Town name[edit]
While most English names of Japanese municipalities do not include suffixes like 市, 町, etc., this is an exception because the town's name is clearly a combination of two words, 信州 and 新町. To drop 町 here make the name nonsensical, so the full name must be preserved in English. While there doesn't seem to be an official romanization explicitly determined by the town, observe that the town website URL (http://www.town.shinshushinmachi.nagano.jp/) uses "shinshushinmachi" where other municipalities would drop the "machi," such as Mibu, Tochigi (http://www.town.mibu.tochigi.jp/). -Amake (talk) 10:29, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
