Unless I am wrong, and I do not believe that I am, this page and Shikotan are about the exact same geographical area, which is the disputed Shikotan/Spanberg Island in the Kurils.

I understand that the subject of this page is about the political district, and not the island itself; but due to the fact that they are mutually inclusive of each other, plus the ongoing territorial dispute, I am following the "disputed regions" guideline in WP:GEOLAND, and recommend the merger per criteria "1. duplicate" and "3. short text" of WP:MERGEREASON. --Nemoschool (talk) 19:10, 26 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Tlhslobus, MChew, Bizkit Wizperer, KNewman, Ymblanter, Nihonjoe, Widr, Nik42, and Amake: I kindly ask for your comments... --Nemoschool (talk) 19:30, 26 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I think it makes sense. It is of course awkward that the article is about a Japanese entity, and the island is currently Russian, but redirects should solve this problem.--Ymblanter (talk) 19:34, 26 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I support merging them. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 19:40, 26 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
(I'm only replying because I was pinged above). I have no views on the matter either way. Tlhslobus (talk) 23:40, 26 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
