Fixation on character race[edit]

Is there a reason this article goes out of the way to describe almost every character's skin tone and ethnic background? It's weird, bordering on obsessive. I don't think that information is very significant for ANY of the characters, certainly not ALL of them. 70.178.58.115 (talk) 10:03, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There is. As with gender, this series includes people of diverse racial, national, & ethnic backgrounds. Since white readers and movie/tv adaptations often ignore mentions of race (as with Rue in Hunger Games) I felt it was worth noting whenever the author does so. Additionally, the information is important to the characters within the texts, whose loyalty is often subtly pulled by their nationalities. Note: race, nationality, and ethnicity are all distinct from one another.
For readers of color, the information is significant, though for white readers it may seem not to be. I would encourage you to reflect on your reaction. This type of thing is exactly why I specialize on wikipedia pages for novels with diverse authors and characters. (talk) 17:29, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
