Theodosius an only child?[edit]

As Theodosius was an only child, and his mother Thermantia was his father's first and only wife, Serena's mother or father must have been from an earlier marriage of Thermantia, thus making her only a half-niece of Theodosius. (Theodosius was not an only child. He had an elder brother, Honorius, who had two daughters, Serena and Thermantia, both of whom were adopted by Theodosius and taken by him to Constantinople when his brother died.)

I have removed this paragraph from the article. It contains two conflicting statements, neither of which is referenced or sourced. Either version of reality may be reinserted into the article when soures are provided. If sources say both, then the conflicting accounts can be mentioned, with appropriate sources. --Iacobus 05:48, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Found information on Serena's parentage, inserting in article with reference. --Iacobus (talk) 23:58, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Death year?[edit]

If the sack happened in August 410, why would Serena be executed for the matter in 409? PrehistoricWalker (talk) 00:17, 17 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

She was executed a year before the Goths sacked Rome at a time when Alaric was blockading the city, causing a foot shortage. Olympiodorus of Thebes wrote she "was thought to be the reason for Alaric's march on Rome". RMcPhillip (talk) 22:03, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
