The article gave "a thousand sakura" as a literal translation of 千本桜. I think "a thousand cherry trees" is more accurate.

In English, sakura refers to the flower of a cherry tree. In Japanese, 桜 (sakura) can refer to either the tree itself or the flower. In this case, sakura refers to the tree rather than the flower. You can tell that the title is referring to the tree because 本 (bon), is the counter for vaguely cylindrical things, like trees.
