'ROTLA' not a "shot for shot" 'SOTI'[edit]

I've seen 'SOTI', 'ROTLA', and also Dr. Landis' on-cam interview ... IIRC, she doesn't really deliver that statement with any irony or sarcasm, but, while Raiders of the Lost Ark most certainly 'borrows' a lot of elements -- perhaps to the point of uncredited plagerism, it is an overstatement to say that it's a shot-by-shot remake of Secret of the Incas (at least to my semi-trained eye) ;). -- Chachap (talk) 13:06, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Raiders isn't even remotely close to being 'shot for shot' of Secrete of the Incas. The tomb scene has a similar concept to the map room scene and other than that the rest of both movies is completely different. Sure the adventure story is similar, and the character design in Raiders is borrowed, if not stolen, heavily from Heston's character here, but the plot is completely different and excluding the tomb scene there aren't even any similar events. I'm not sure what Landis was thinking. This film should be cited as inspiration for the Indy films, or at least for Indy himself, but the Indy films were not a remake of this one. 66.165.176.62 (talk) 18:00, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

She did say almost a shot for shot remake. Not something to be too absolutely literal-minded about, given that caveat. The character and the tone for Raiders of the Lost Ark were obviously utterly rooted in Secret of the Incas, though, a movie that any perceptive person admits was clearly much more than merely an influence upon its illegitimate offspring. The other astonishing thing about Secret of the Incas is its phenomenal entertainment value, what with the Macchu Picchu locale, fantastic acting (Heston, Thomas Mitchell, Robert Young), and the dialogue for the amazing larger-than-life Harry Steele characterization.
