"has taught" vs "taught"[edit]

Has she retired or something? NYU's listing implies that she is still teaching, and if that's the case then "has taught" would be more appropriate. Of course, NYU may be wrong, or she may have scaled back from a full courseload. - Jredmond (talk) 17:29, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Questions[edit]

The content below was on my Talk page. Moved ot to Sarah Landau Talk page. David notMD (talk) 02:15, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I've been trying to edit my mother, Sarah Landau's wiki page. Why does it still say more citations are needed? Also, how would I add her middle name "Bradford" to the entry as well as a photo? Finally, how would I add the right hand basic bio info like other people bios have with her birth & death dates? Currently something on there says she died at age 88 which isn't true. She died Feb 4, 2023 and was 87. That should be clear because it was before her birthday which was March 27, 1935. Thanks. --AmyLandau (talk) 23:16, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@AmyLandau please not you have a WP:COI do to your relation to her. You're welcome to make suggestions on the talk page at Talk:Sarah Landau with the corrections you mentioned. There is only one reference currently, while mostly articles have dozens if not more.
Wikipedia (and Wikimedia Commons) pretty much only allow freely hosted images, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials how to upload/donate images that satisfy the licensing requirements. If you took the photos yourself, then you own the copyright and can permit Wikipedia to access it. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 00:26, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Thanks for your reply. But what does your first sentence mean? It doesn't make sense. Also there are several references if by references you mean links to external sources. Please define what is meant by "reference". I don't know who took the photo, but we own the original copy. AmyLandau (talk) 01:37, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

AmyLandau I moved the content above from my Talk page to the article Talk page. In answer to your questions, anyone with a personal connection to a topic (you to article about your mother) has what Wikipedia calls a conflict of interest (see WP:COI), meaning you are to not edit the article directly. Your recourse is to open a New section here at the article's Talk page and then make specific requests, as in replace _____ with _____. A non-connected editor will either implement your requests or say why not. As it exists, the article has one reference. It has External links, which do not count. It is possible that the websites now in External links could be better used as references. David notMD (talk) 02:20, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In answer to your other questions, all factual statements in an article about a person need to be verified by reliable source references (ref can be used more than once if the refs support more than one fact). Photographs are the copyright protected property of the photographer. In people articles, the box on the right is called an Infobox. See Help:Referencing for beginners for how to format refs. Personally, I work on refs in my own Sandbox, the copy into the article once they are good. David notMD (talk) 02:36, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
