Wow, this is a lot of information. What to make of it? There are some serious prose and pov issues in this text. I suggest this modification:

The British Intelligence unit, popularly known as Room 40, maintained records on the activities of SM U-53.(citation)

Then, I'd elaborate on this: For example, Kaptlt needs to be explained. came off the stocks needs explaining. SM U-53 Kaptlt. Rose, later Kaptlt. von Schrader. Came off the stocks at Kiel about March or April 1916, and joined the Kiel School for trials, leaving it for the North Sea at the end of May 1916. She was attached to the 2nd Half Flotilla. <--what is this? explain

1st June - 3rd June 1916. North Sea patrol (after Jutland<--should be wikilinked, Battle of Jutland)). Searched for the survivors from the cruiser ELBING. <--should be wikilinked

6th June – 15th June 1916. North Sea patrol. <--?

3rd July - 13th July 1916. North Sea patrol. Sank 1 S.S. <-- should be written out. What steamship did she sink?

17th August - 22nd August 1916. North Sea patrol.

S.S. = Steam Ship; S.V. = Sailing Vessel; northabout, Muckle Flugga, Fair I. = around Scotland; Sound, Belts, Kattegat = via North of Denmark to/from German Baltic ports; Bight = to/from German North Sea ports; success = sinking of ships;

In all cases, these need to be contextualized. What is Muckle Flugga? Where is it? What ships were sunk? What fleet was she attached to? This is not encyclopedic, it is simply a collection of supposed facts, and quite possibly rumors. What can be made of this in conjunction with other sources? Fewer abbreviations, more text, additional information. There is a serious problem with Room 40 information. First, it was information, not intelligence -- it was not interpreted it was simply reported. Second, it could have been wrong. Thus, to say known intelligence is misleading.
