Proposal for use of this page[edit]

I am currently writing a new article on the former English trade union leader Sir Ronald Gould, general secretary of the National Union of Teachers from 1947-1970. To avoid confusion with the existing Ronald M. Gould page that refers to the US judge, I propose that the current redirect page at Ronald Gould (currently pointing at the US judge) becomes instead the page for the English trade unionist. Both Ronald Gould pages should then have a "This page is about..." notice telling them about the other page.

This is in keeping with the disambiguation guidance on WP:DAB. I would welcome comments from editors on this proposal. Peteinterpol (talk) 10:31, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Consensus that there's no primary topic for Ron/Ronald, and that trade unionist is the best disambiguator rather than educator.  — Amakuru (talk) 11:36, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

– Of all the pages listed at the current disambiguation page (Ron Gould) the current article receives nowhere near the most page views [1] (note that the stats have changed after several recent page moves) and certainly doesn't qualify as primary topic. The current page should be disambiaguated; I would suggest educator based on the page's category, but there might be a better term. I also suggest the disambiguation page be moved over the current page, because it lists more Ronalds than Rons. kennethaw88talk 22:02, 15 April 2016 (UTC) --Relisted. There are two proposed Moves in this proposal, and I oppose the first one (but would suggest an alternative that it sounds like the proposer might accept) and accept the second move, as follows:

  • Oppose Ronald GouldRonald Gould (educator). The article indicates Sir Ronald Gould is actually notable for his trade union activities rather than his time as a teacher. And I suspect 'educator' is much more commonly used as a term now, than in his lifetime. So I would propose instead a move to 'Ronald Gould (trade unionist)'.
  • Accept Ron GouldRonald Gould. If this is saying make the page currently entitled 'Ronald Gould' a disambiguation page where all the pages about people with that name are listed, then I can see the sense in it as no one of these pages is the primary topic. If that is not the proposal then I oppose it. Peteinterpol (talk) 09:49, 17 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Support move to 'Ronald Gould (trade unionist)'; as well as the second move. there is no PT here. InsertCleverPhraseHere 02:10, 22 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
