American Association[edit]

The Richmond Virginians were also a major league team in the American Association in 1884. (http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/RIC/1884.shtml) I've added a mention of this in the article -- not sure if they need their own article or not. Kathy A. 18:32, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Accuracy[edit]

The last paragraph is outdated; the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees dropped Yankees in favor of RailRiders, effective with the 2013 season. (See team website via milb.com) Almost all teams below Class A go by their parent's nickname; of the AAA/AA/A level in the Yankee system, ONLY the Tampa Yankees (High-A) use Yankees. And they were in the retired George Steinbrenner's back yard. The beginning of that graf is somewhat misleading, although technically accurate: what is stated as being true "at one point" is literally true ONLY of the Richmond Yankees' first season; SEVERAL other Yankee affiliates had non-Yankee nicknames during the rest of the Yankees' tenure in Richmond: the Amarillo Gold Sox, the Shelby Colonels, the Binghamton Triplets, the New Orleans Pelicans and the Birmingham Barons; the latter two were in regular use for decades, Birmingham's for right at 100 years.
