Dickins & Jones

The Dickins & Jones section needs rewriting, as it has now closed. My wife tells me that Mappin & Webb have a store there, but I haven't seen to confirm. Can anyone update? Schmunk 21:12, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Deleted

I deleted the sentence, "It remains the world's finest toystore" from the Hamleys paragraph, for obvious reasons of bias, subjectivism, and meaninglessness. Trinite 21:05, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Monopoly

The street is one of the locations on the standard version of the Monopoly board game.

The great thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from. What definition of 'standard' applies here? —Tamfang (talk) 16:46, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

  • You have a point - obviously it should say the standard UK version, but you could have just made that change, instead of bringing it to the talk page! Diliff | (Talk) (Contribs) 16:55, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
I might, if I had ever seen a British standard Monopoly board. —Tamfang (talk) 01:01, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

London Transport

Why has the article got into Wikiproject London Transport? I don't see the relevance. ProfDEH (talk) 21:01, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Hindustan

There seems to be some confusion as to which Hindustan was used to make the department store. Lots42 (talk) 18:14, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

How About Our Flag Back?

The last section of the Events part of the page, 'Other Events Relate With Regent Street Oversea', needs re-written and possibly deleted. I'm not sure it's particularly relevant to the article. The Taiwanese flag was indeed removed from Regent Street, but a Google search for 'How About Our Flag Back' returns only a link to this article, making it difficult to verify and unclear how large the event was. I only searched in english, so perhaps someone could search in chinese or taiwanese? 86.11.186.147 (talk) 04:28, 27 July 2012 (UTC)

I'm not sure that this article should be a battleground for falg wars. At least not in the terms some editors have been using. It may be a fact, as demonstrated by photographs, that the RoC flag was removed from a display on Regent Street, but saying it happened for this reason or that reason is speculation without a reliable source. Besides, is this sort of thing actually relevant in this particular article? --Pete (talk) 17:44, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
The photo is terrible quality anyway. ProfDEH (talk) 20:50, 24 January 2013 (UTC)

Regent Circle

From Londonist, it looks like this was a proposal that was never finished. It might be worth mentioning in the article (@Ritchie333).

  • "Unbuilt London: The Regent's Circus". Londonist. 19 November 2017.

Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 20:28, 20 November 2016 (UTC)

@Mike Peel: Technically, that's part of Portland Place, so I have added information about Regent's Circus there. (Okay, Broadcasting House isn't on Regent Street either but as you can see it from there it can sneak in....) Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:58, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

Lower Regent Street has been renamed Regent Street St James

I drive a bus route that goes through Lower Regent Street.

I have noticed that the street signs have been replaced to show Regent Street St James as shown here http://l7.alamy.com/zooms/367a190a623f431daf39a17fe323369d/street-sign-in-london-uk-ex21wt.jpg

I don't want to create original research; I am just going by what I have seen.

This website explains the official renaming of Lower Regent Street:

http://www.stjameslondon.co.uk/correspondent/regent-street-st-james-s/

Frankly I hate the new name Regent Street St James. It is much harder to say than Lower Regent Street.

Nearly everybody I have spoken to addresses that road as Lower Regent Street. Even the sign at Piccadilly Circus station clearly calls that road Lower Regent Street as shown in this web link: http://l7.alamy.com/zooms/6ffdcdf1b5c647c9b6fdde56fdcc9515/an-old-sign-for-shaftsbury-avenue-haymarketm-regent-street-piccadilly-fk1757.jpg

GA Review

This review is transcluded from Talk:Regent Street/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.

If you mean Piccadilly Circus this sentence is correct. If you meant Oxford Circus, I believe the correct term is lattermost: Nearby tube stations are Charing Cross, Piccadilly Circus and Oxford Circus;[3] the latter...

It meant Oxford Circus. I've fixed this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anarchyte (talkcontribs)

Downmarket is an adjective or adverb, and I do not think it is used as either in this sentence: It was hoped the road could link Pall Mall and the Haymarket, which had declined and became downmarket.

I've tried to reword it, is it better now? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anarchyte (talkcontribs)

Should the be capitalized in this sentence? - The central section, known as the Quadrant,

No. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anarchyte (talkcontribs)

Keep commas and periods inside of quotation marks at the end of a quotation, unless that is a British thing. - The central section, known as the Quadrant, was designed for "shops appropriated to articles of fashion and taste",

Fixed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anarchyte (talkcontribs)

I believe Dr needs a . behind it here: during his search for Dr David Livingstone in Africa

Fixed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anarchyte (talkcontribs)

Is this sentence proper? - It was quickly found to be too small for purpose,

Reworded Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:32, 6 February 2017 (UTC)

Are quotation marks necessary here? - dubbed as "Fashion and Design Month" (FDM)

Nope. Fixed Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:32, 6 February 2017 (UTC)

What is administration, is that like bankruptcy? Can you link to something that would help people like me? - In 2016, Austin Reed filed for administration, ending over 100 years' presence on Regent Street.

Linked to administration (law). It's roughly the equivalent of Chapter 11 in the US, where you get somebody in to help pay off debts immediately Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:13, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

Am I reading this wrong, or is this image tagged as if it were created in the U.S.? - File:Regent St proposal published 1813.jpg

Well it's hosted on Commons, and they tend to be pretty quick with deleting non-free stuff, plus I can't think of any country where the copyright lasts for over 200 years! Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 22:19, 3 February 2017 (UTC)
I am going to look into this a bit more. Kees08 (talk) 21:13, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

As I sort of helped with the article (Ritchie was the main contributor though), I can help address any of the issues that come up, if it's fine w/ @Ritchie333:. Anarchyte (work | talk) 07:08, 3 February 2017 (UTC)

Yeah, if I'm out an about with the kids, shopping etc. fire away. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 22:19, 3 February 2017 (UTC)

I think there are several better pictures for the All Souls Church, with this potentially being one of them: File:All_Souls_Church,_Langham_place_and_BBC_Broadcasting_House_seen_from_The_Heights..._(17145644036).jpg

Won't hold up GA at all, just a suggestion. There are many more quality photos on the commons. Kees08 (talk) 22:32, 4 February 2017 (UTC)

This photo might be a nice addition to the history section: File:On the Move in Wartime London, 1942 D9320.jpg

Last, but not least, here are some F1 on Regent Street photos if you are interested: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Formula_One_Comes_to_Regent_Street

I've added the images in suitable locations, feel free to edit the captions. Anarchyte (work | talk) 01:59, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

@Kees08: I think everything bar that image copyright you wanted to look at has been addressed, anything else? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 13:31, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

@Ritchie333 and Anarchyte: There are still quite a few periods outside of quotation marks. I usually do a ctrl+f for ". and work from there. Same with commas. Again, unless that's a British thing, I only really know American English. Kees08 (talk) 03:03, 9 February 2017 (UTC)

Fixed a few, are there any more? ctrlf for ". and ", bring no results. Anarchyte (work | talk) 09:46, 9 February 2017 (UTC)
Looks good to me! Kees08 (talk) 18:05, 10 February 2017 (UTC)

Also, I think {{PD-art-life-70}} is the correct tag for those old images. Please feel free to double check, but the description seems to match the best. Note, I do believe 100% it is in the PD, just want to make sure it has the right PD tag. Kees08 (talk) 05:46, 9 February 2017 (UTC)

To be honest, I think this is a Commons issue (as that's where the image is hosted). Jo-Jo Emuerus may know exactly which tag to place. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:19, 9 February 2017 (UTC)
Once we get this second opinion on the tag, we can pass this. I am pretty sure that is something I am supposed to check for during the GA review process, but if I am mistaken just let me know. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kees08 (talkcontribs)
@Kees08: As we still haven't had any other thoughts on this, should we ask at WT:GAN, put the review on "2nd opinion" status (and then ask), or pass anyway and save the discussion for a rainy day? I'm amenable to any of these three options. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 17:07, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
Let's see if we get a response in the next couple of days, I am in no real hurry. Kees08 (talk) 03:36, 14 February 2017 (UTC)
To make this more clear, I went with option 1, it is on the GAN talk page. Kees08 (talk) 05:39, 14 February 2017 (UTC)
I updated the tagging on Commons and replied to the WT:GAN thread. The criterion for GA is that free images be tagged with their copyright status, which is definitely done now even if the exact selection of template changes. --RL0919 (talk) 15:54, 14 February 2017 (UTC)

Panoramic view of Oxford Circus: clarity required

The panoramic view of Oxford Circus does not make it clear which of the streets is Regent Street, and since the corners have almost identical architecture even I, who've been there numerous times, can't tell just by looking. Please caption the image clearly indicating what's where. Lee M (talk) 02:44, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
