Not really sourced, unsecure connection[edit]

The identification of the ruins at Ras Mkumbuu with the historic name Qanbalu is speculative. Qanbalu was mentioned by Al-Masudi and it has been discussed if he meant the island of Pemba. For a sober discussion see this paragraph in Reid, Lane:African Historical Archaeologies (via google books). I move to Ruins of Ras Mkumbuu Kipala (talk) 11:15, 12 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
