"Raised On Robbery"[edit]

I hope someone can track down a Joni Mitchell interview about this song, because this entry repeats an assumption (from three critics) that I reckon is probably false. I always taken this song to be about a lonely and not particularly bright woman, but not a prostitute. Hotel hookers are, after all, generally pretty savvy about which guys are likely prospects, but this woman is clueless, completely misreading the man she's trying to seduce. As Mitchell makes clear at the very start of the same, he is literally invested in the hockey game. Yet the woman in lacy sleeves completely misreads him, dismissing the other men in the lounge by saying: "Look at those jokers, glued to that damn hockey game."
