Both of these articles are very small and since they are about the same area it makes sense to merge them i.e. put Joe's Pond into Rainton Meadows. Twiceuponatime (talk) 12:56, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No it doesn't. They are not, in fact, the same area: they share a common boundary but, contrary to what the articles say, the areas do not overlap (which just goes to show that one can't believe everything one reads on Wikipedia!). On Durham Wildlife Trust's website, they are listed as two separate reserves and they are also shown that way on Natural England's Nature on the Map site. They also have a very different status: Joe's Pond is a statutory Site of Special Scientific Interest (which is also managed as a nature reserve), Rainton Meadows is merely a nature reserve (not even a Local Nature Reserve).
