sinister article

A very sinister article. It is full of loaded words for a start. Not that I thought very highly of the subject before reading the article...

I have to agree with the comment below. This article is extremely poorly written and worse, it covers a major figure in 20th century history. If a professor of Caribbean Studies could please intervene here, it would be most appreciated.

Wikipedia is a joke! This whole article is fraught with errors and lack of authoritative sources.

Wikipedia does have some great information on a range of subjects, however this stands as a terrible example of what can slip through the cracks. Trujillo was an iconic figure often referenced in studies of 20th Century Latin-American history, it would be a shame if someone who really didnt have any other sources had to use this crap to write an essay for elementary world history or something. I think many people on here waste too much time arguing about whether there should be an article on Brian Peppers rather than making articles readable. --76.174.41.9 00:11, 24 May 2007 (UTC)


Downfall and Assassination

When he was killed, he was stuffed into the luggage case of the car and drove to one of the conspirators house, where he was later found by two military men doing raids for his assasins wasnt he? it was reported when they opened the cars luggage case they saw "el jefe" dead. and start weeping. but here it says he was left for dead on the bulevard I only skimmed this, but when I come across "megalomaniacal" I wonder about NPOV. - Hephaestos 04:52 11 Jun 2003 (UTC)

I removed the phrase " Years before, the Spaniard Jesús de Galíndez, a professor at Columbia University in New York, had been kidnapped and murdered in the Dominican Republic. " because it seemed a non-sequitur.

Spanish naming conventions

It would make sense considering that's his name. Wouldn't you feel a little odd looking at an article for George Bush (no mention of middle name) or perhaps O Simpson (J being his middle initial and therefore not needed.)

assination: With the killings of hundreds of people by this man whyd it take so long for someone to kill him? whyd the US help kill innocent peole such as jesus galindaz? what other countries are hiding and protecting the members of that pigs family and how much are they being payed to do it? this country does nothing to help protect people from killers like that family instead they help cover them up and protect the killers theirselfs i really hope that one day the families will get tioghther and get revenge against that family of killers each and everyone plus all their rich friends

Aftermath

I just fixed a bit of grammar there, but I didn't quite know what the author wanted to say about changing placenames so I deleted the phrase. Perhaps someone knows what I mean. There was some vandilsism I deleted it 2/14/07 -metsfanalex

Copyright violations

Some of this article appears verbatim from http://countrystudies.us/dominican-republic/11.htm, but interestingly with revisions to the ideas themselves rather than to the wording. This article needs to be rewritten. The writing is unclear, especially the section on his family. It reads like he married his own mother. 'Juvenile' Fiction?

I deleted the word 'juvenile' describing the two books by Julia Alvarez. How The Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents is definitely NOT juvenile fiction, with discussions of explicit sex, pedophilia, fallacies about condoms causing impotence, violence, etc. A great book, but not one for storytime at the library.Carlaclaws (talk) 20:00, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

Enviromental policy?

Jared Diamond's book Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed states that Trujillo was responsible for supporting sustainable management of the Dominican Republic's forests, which eventually contributed to the Republic's comparative wealth and stability, as opposed to Haiti which eventually suffered collapse due to mismanagement of it's own natural resources. Although the book doesn't go into details about why, it says that Trujillo was deeply passionate about conservation, and he believed that all the forests in the Dominican Republic should be protected. Should not something about this be in the article? what other information about his enviromental ideas are there? --Krsont 20:20, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

You are confusing Trujillo with the later Joaquín Balaguer.

The article states that the day of Trujillo's assassination is celebrated as a National Holiday. This seems a little dubiuous. Can this be substantiated with anything other than a "reference" from Find a Grave? Otherwise it should probably be deleted. Dr. Dan (talk) 00:20, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

As time has gone by there have been occasional allegations that Trujillo was a homosexual.[1] Speaking on Radio Educativa Dominicana (RED) 95.3 FM. José Miguel Gómez, a Dominican psychiatrist who published the book Trujillo, as seen by a psychiatrist denied those rumors. Rather than gay the psychiatrist said he was a psychopath. "But not an ordinary psychopath because Trujillo was very skillful, disciplined, intelligent."[1]

It's a purely unnecessary entry with an unencyclopedic quality to it. It's like saying that it's alleged that Trujillo was a diabetic, but his doctors said it wasn't true. If you need to get the subject matter into the article you can always add that Trujillo claimed that his Venezuelan nemesis, Rómulo Betancourt, was a maricon. There are sources that support that Trujillo said that. But personally I would object to that entry for the same reasons. Dr. Dan (talk) 04:31, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Bias?

Is it just me, or does this article seem very bias? It does not discuss how Trujillo helped to make the DR into an industrialized nation. He was a very crazy dictator but he did stabilize the the country. Case in point is are the amounts of time previous presidents would last, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Presidents_of_the_Dominican_Republic . Yes, a glaring omission. I've added one sentence (with a reference) that someone with a better knowledge of the country's history could probably expand on. I've added "Citation needed" tags to some of the unsourced claims in the article. There is also a section that is entirely unsourced that was already marked. Some of the sources are books without page numbers; that makes them rather unverifiable. I haven't gone through them in depth, but some of the sources currently used don't really look reliable to me either.--Carabinieri (talk) 03:48, 25 June 2018 (UTC)

Summary bias?

The last paragraph of the summary ends with

"Due to the longevity of Trujillo's rule, a detached evaluation of his legacy is difficult. Supporters of Trujillo claim that he reorganized both the state and the economy, and left vast infrastructure to the country. From a moral point of view, however, a detached evaluation is not difficult at all. Everyone agrees on the brutality of his rule, and critics also claim that much of the country's wealth wound up in the hands of his family or close associates.[citation needed]"

It seems as if an argument is being made here rather than a fact being stated and the term "everyone" is extremely broad with no source, not to mention the fact that the claims of criticisms towards Trujillo that the sentence mentions are not even cited. Is this accurate?

The article says

"What is not in doubt is that Trujillo was murdered with weapons supplied by the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)"

This implies that all the weapons used in the assassination were supplied by the CIA. Amado García Guerrero was a lieutenant in the army, and likely used the weapon issued to him as a soldier. I don't have a printed reference, but is there any reliable evidence to the contrary? Sayitclearly (talk) 12:51, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
