PYE Man[edit]

Do you like "PYE" ? Are you a "PYE" Man ? Do you like the shape of the badge ?

My recollection is that during the 1950's Pye produced a high quality record player called the "Black Box." It came out around the time that high quality classical records became available on LP. Before component hi-fi spread it was the top choice for anyone interested in classical music. Am I right in remembering this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.194.10.238 (talk) 13:37, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

More information and confirmation of details:

Late 70s - 80s audio equipment available since Philips takeover: Diotran - spin-off brand for hi-fi components (was that mainly "budget" to "value" equipment with "typical" functionality and specifications? Pye mainly focusing on budget to value-level music centres and two-component (turntable + casseiver (receiver and cassette deck in one unit)) systems, portable audio, etc? Could some of this equipment have been sold in North America under the Magnavox brand? —Preceding unsigned comment added by SimonMackay (talkcontribs) 12:30, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Newspaper headline - true or urban myth ?[edit]

Is the old anecdote about *the newspaper headline* actually true or just an urban myth ? I've seen it mentioned in various locations, including a high school text book publisehd in the mid-1980's.

The story goes: There was a long-running strike at Pye. Eventually management and workers agreed to settle their differences. The resulting newspaper headline was: "Pye are squared"

Just a little smidgin of up-to-the-second, local news[edit]

The remains of the Pye laboratories, which are just outside my window here in sunny Cambridge, are currently being ripped up by a Hitachi Zaxis 350 LC. Sad to see it go, the end of a long era in Cambridge history. The land is due to be used for more residential buildings. 94.196.165.40 (talk) 15:15, 10 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

colour camera or not?[edit]

the mk6 is described as three-tube, the hallmark of a colour camera, yet a subsequent para claims that pye never made a colour broadcast camera. which is it?

Move to Pye (electronics company)[edit]

I am about to attempt a WP:BOLD move to Pye (electronics company) as I feel that compared to Pye Ltd. this offers greater common-usage and precision as per WP:COMMONNAME? If anyone disagrees, please feel free to revert and discuss. The Parson's Cat (talk) 07:34, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
