War Zone[edit]

According to this August 12, 2005 script review at LatinoReview.com, the sequel would be called "The Punisher: War Zone." As I'm hesitating to cite this source due to extreme POV, the only other mention I could find about War Zone (except in passing) is an August 5, 2004 news blurb from ComicBookMovies.com that quotes Thomas Jane: "There's a pretty good storyline in Circle of Blood. I like taking storylines from the comics and running them together. It would be great if Circle of Blood was one of them. And again, there's some pretty good stuff from the War Journal stuff. I'm hoping that number two is called The Punisher War Zone. Like we could do The Punisher: Circle of Blood or The Punisher War Zone. I think that'd be fun." While this reveals the possibility of the name, the article doesn't confirm the title, due to the age of the article. If anyone can track down further (and more valid) citation for the possible title, we could include it in the article. --Erik 14:14, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jonathan Hensleigh[edit]

Saying "For reasons unknown" about the director not returning to direct the sequel is a bit of information that will obviously change in the future. With film articles, certain liberties need to be taken with some "future information" aspects such as release dates. The citation about the director not returning does not mention why, otherwise that information would already be included in the article. It's extraneous to state "For reasons unknown". If a reason arises down the line, then that will be added to this article. --Erik 15:00, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think what's going on with that statement is that editors want to say that "Jane also said that for reasons unknown director Jonathan Hensleigh would not be returning to direct the sequel.", but what they keep editing to say is that jane randomly blurted out something, when they want to say Jane doesn't know why hensliegh won't return. ThuranX 20:28, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Top of article[edit]

The top of article needs some rewording, since this is actually the third film but the first sequel to the remake. I tried, but couldn't think of how to pull it off. --Steven Fisher 18:10, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I just simplified it to say that it was an action film and the sequel to the 2004 film. I don't think that the first Punisher film is necessary mention in this film article. Hope that helps. --Erik (talk/contrib) @ 19:01, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't call the 2004 film a remake of the first Punisher movie. Just another one. TotalTommyTerror 19:13, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Heads-up[edit]

I plan to revise and merge this film article into the character's article. It's apparent that there's no actual production taking place for this project, and the lack of such an event will leave an underdeveloped article. The film article will be redirected to the appropriate Film section on the character's article. —Erik (talkcontribreview) - 21:21, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Support this idea for Luke Cage. I'm not so sure about this one, though. The wheels of progress here are grinding slowly, and we do get new info on a bi-monthly, or more, basis. I'm not sure if merging is so good on this one. I know we'll have the history and such. ThuranX 02:21, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I think there might be something about a new screenwriter... I'll have to check my headlines that my Google Alerts have retrieved. But I read something that Jane said, something like, "We'll begin filming this July... but that's what I said last year, too." I'll revise the article here, and that'll give me an idea of where to go from there. —Erik (talkcontribreview) - 02:31, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Headline[edit]

Working title[edit]

Since hte announcement of the working title, Iv'e created that as a redirect to this page, as title may change. If anyone feels that instead, we should ask for a page move to there, please discuss first, then find consensus. Thank you. ThuranX 05:27, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I notice IMDB have changed the title to the working title but we aren't in any rush and we might as well wait until the name is confirmed to save moving this around - the redirect can snag any casual searchers for now. (Emperor 01:18, 20 August 2007 (UTC))[reply]
I have reverted the 'move' of this page to the other by an IP. Until WBF is confirmed as the release title, I see little value in creating multiple pages for the article, many of which may wind up being useless redirects in a couple months. ThuranX 04:50, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree - they were explicit it was the working title so we might as well wait (especially as there are no benefits to moving it around). (Emperor 12:56, 20 August 2007 (UTC))[reply]
Seems a bit late for that now. => Harish - 12:24, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
FOllowing a SECOND move ,I have reverted to this page again. Per the 3 editors above, please keep page here until an official title is announced and brought here. As a consensus exists, a move without talking here would not be BOLD, but a problem. thank you for respecting consensus. ThuranX 21:07, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

THis continues to confuse people. "The Punisher: War Zone" Is NOT the title of this film that will reach theaters, it's the working title. Once this movie gets a release title, it will go there. Until then, leave it here. Unless someone can provide a good rationale, leave it alone. ThuranX 13:51, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lionsgate publicity site has Punisher: War Zone as the official title. [1]76.205.112.58 07:03, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
UNfortunately, they also had Welcome Back, Frank as the title, meaning they can and do post working titles. Unfortuantely, this does not indicate that it's the actual release title. I'd love a solid simple citation on this, and whiel that's good, it's not iron clad due to their previous posting. ah well. ThuranX 20:08, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

since there are 2 existing Punisher War Zone article, (one is the comic book series and the other is film), ill move this article to "film" to disambiguate the difference... †Bloodpack† 20:36, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've just moved from Punisher 2 to Punisher: War Zone. As the other is designated 'Comic', simply put an 'if you're looking for ' tag on the film, to get to the comic. Otherwise, YOU can do the cleanup on double redirects, as I JUST finished most of it. ThuranX 20:39, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In your haste, you used a Cut n paste instead of a move. Now the other page requires admin intervention. Further, citation is that there's no definite article 'The' in the film's title. I've fixed the links and redirects, and I'm not doing it again. I put the page where the citation says it should be; the comic has a 'the', the movie apparently will not. leave it be. We have the if your'e looking for thing at the top, and that's enough. ThuranX 20:52, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The title in the intro included a reference explaining the working title had been "The Punisher: Welcome Back Frank". It seems someone updated the title but didn't clear the old reference. The former title might be reincluded as a production detail so I'm noting it here in case anyone wants to add it back in an appropriate place.[1] -- Horkana (talk) 18:58, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Page Moves and Title[edit]

Per hte citation given, that of the production company's upcomign releases, the title is Punisher: War Zone. After a long 48 hours of page moves by numerous editors, it's been fixed, and is back here, at the current 'official' title. SHould it require moves in the future, find citation FIRST. The citation gives NO definite article 'The' in front, and thus it needs no disambiguation in the title, like "(film)". Leave it here unless a solid citation for another title can be provided, fan sites do NOT count. ThuranX 01:36, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Punisher war zone.jpg[edit]

I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Which Citation[edit]

Which Citation says that the movie isn't a sequel anymore? I checked the one closest to the actual line, but It didn't say anything that I saw. DurinsBane87 (talk) 00:39, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I can't find it in article now, but there was an interview wit hthe director in which she staated they didn't even look at the old one ,that it was all new stuff. it migth still be linked back here, it was in the last two months. I can't relaly do much for the next few days, but i'll try to look for it, if you can find it, that'd be great. I think it was in the article, but mightv'e been removed. there's been a LOT of sequel warring going on. ThuranX (talk) 22:42, 22 December 2007 (UTC) OR< it's right there in the cite you ignored at the end of the sentence you're questioning. It's in that variety article, cite #5 at the end of the lead. Reboot or sequel?[edit]

I was just wondering why everything in the main article says it's a sequel, but the introduction says it's a reboot. When I checked the article footnoted for that statement, the article doesn't appears to speculate that this film is a reboot. Everything I read about this movie doesn't seem to confirm whether or not it's a reboot or a sequel. At least nothing concrete from an official source. Does anyone have an official source that confirms this? Batmianla (talk) 00:07, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

it's vacillated. we'll wait and see, I think. ThuranX (talk) 03:05, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
"vacillated?"
Using "reboot" in this context is bad english anyway, presumably PR-influenced, and not appropriate here. The dictionary definition of reboot only defines it in relation to computers. It is not correct english to use it in relation to films, and I for one, don't know what it means in this context at all. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.105.202.230 (talk) 18:07, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It means exactly what the magazines, articles, and press releases mean it to, and if you really think it's only used in the context of computers, you're simply not reading much about films, or other forms of fiction. ThuranX (talk) 06:44, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well considering there is NO relationship whatsoever to the version starring Thomas Jane, then its a remake/reboot/whatever and NOT a sequel. They went with comic origin where his family was killed on the picnic (and Castles was former Special Forces) rather than the massacre of his family in Puerto Rico (and Castle being a former FBI agent).--76.113.73.249 (talk) 04:01, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New Final Poster[edit]

Prop Artists[edit]

Relentlessknives (talk) 03:34, 5 December 2008 (UTC) I made the knife for the film, and, it is a signature piece in the film. The Punisher would not be as interesting or fun without his weapons collection.[reply]

I edited the page adding my name title and link, which was removed.I can understand removing my link, but please allow me to take my position with the other artists who worked on the film.

I was told by the Great and hard working (THANKS no matter what happen here) editors that movie prop makers are not usually mentioned, and because my web site sells products....( only handmade articles) that I could not be included.

I respectfully disagree on the following basis.

The movie it's self is a product made to sell. Every person associated with it did so for the reason of producing a product and mention of it at all is a sales pitch. None of the artists worked on the movie for free, and that goes for almost every movie ever produced in Hollywood. I am simply attempting to add my name to the list of artists who are already there and who have been there for quite some time.I am no less of an artist than any of them.

Please let me put my name were it belongs as part of the production. I don't care about the link to my sight even though that is how the director found my artwork and included it in the production.

i respectfully plea to those who might help in this matter.

No. Wikipedia prevents self-promotion. What you're asking for is an exemption from a core policy of Wikipedia. that's unlikely, at best. If you can provide us with citations that we can independently examine, other editors might be willing to add some mention of your efforts. Is Cinefex likely to do an article on the film? Or another reliable source? if so, let us know. ThuranX (talk) 15:41, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reception[edit]

Reception section features a quote that does not appear in the references article at all. The reference has been removed and readded several times revision 280391520 readded SF Gate reference but the quote goes back many revisions further than that. in revision 256254563 the quote is attributed to Mike LaSalle also of the San Francisco Chronicle but the reference give is to a review from Crave Online which doesn't feature the quote either. The name Mike LaSalle was removed from the article in revision 256356531 and in the process reattributing the quote.

Peter Hartlaub of the San Francisco Chronicle gave the film a positive review, writing that the "film was great. It stays true to the comics and the origin. Sure, the plot was a little thin, but it's one of the best action packed and violent films I've ever seen in my life".[1]

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/12/05/DDOH14GTQO.DTL

Finally found it. the quote was first added in revision 256118845 without a proper citation but crammed in beside the existing unrelated reference from Crave Online. Quote is unverifiable.

The article by Pete Hartlaub could potentially be readded as an example of a favourable review of the film but instead using a quote that actually appeared in the article. Spent enough time on this, have removed the mistake and explained clearly why it was wrong and I'm amazed how it survived this long but I'm not going to spend anymore time trying to improve the critical response section. -- Horkana (talk) 18:30, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
