Athletics vs. Blue Jays (July 3, 2014)[edit]

Looks like the A's protested the game vs the Blue Jays in 2014. Don't see that listed. Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmcHe__9kfY — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:249:4200:E8C0:793B:7A16:A5F4:4870 (talk) 19:30, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The article lists upheld protests, which did not occur in that game, as the Athletics went on to win it. From Retrosheet: "Melvin played the game under protest, which was thrown out due to the Athletics victory", see additional info in this play-by-play summary. Protest rule gone in 2020[edit]

The 2021 OBR 7.04 states: "Protesting a game shall never be permitted, regardless of whether such complaint is based on judgment decisions by the umpire or an allegation that an umpire misapplied these rules or otherwise rendered a decision in violation of these rules." This is not listed as a 2021 rule change, and protests were still allowed in the 2019 rules, so I think it's a 2020 rule change. (MLB did not publish a 2020 rule book.) Check that - turns out they did publish the 2020 rule book (ISBN 9781629377865). But they didn't put out the PDF file, so I can't check the listing of 2020 rule changes. TroyVan (talk) 23:56, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Spoke too soon again - turns out there is a PDF rulebook for 2020 (ISBN 978-1-7348793-0-8, sample link). This is indeed a 2020 rule change. TroyVan (talk) 00:19, 3 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
