comment

I removed her old picture because it had copyright issues and looked kinda blurry.--Plumcouch 00:50, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Image use

Is it ok to use a disputed image (in terms of copyright and fair use) on this page?--rakshat 05:32, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

DOB ?

imdb lists her dob as 1974. is the entry on wikipedia wrong or on imdb ?

  • There aren't many sites giving her dob. Bollywhat.com says "born: January 31, 1975 (or '74)". Maybe nobody knows exactly. BernardM 14:05, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Removal of links

By removing the links to her movies, you are re-directing other people to other articles. Please do not do that, as people who do want to know about that specific film will presented with another article. Pa7 22:11, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

Date of Birth

Preity Zinta is born in 1975.

http://www.indiafm.com/features/2006/01/31/988/index.html

That site is the only site I can find right now that proves my point. There have been other interviews with her this year about her turining 31 on the 31st of Jan '06.

picture

this is a picture from cannes film festival in 2006 at the Da Vinci Code premire.

In order to add it, information on copyright holder, photographer and news agency is needed. Otherwise, it cannot be displayed on Wikipedia. Best regards, --Plumcouch 17:13, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

why can`t you understand? when you remove the page to the "hero" the languages and the categories are dissapearing!

Possibly an internal error. No reason to delete source and setence. --Plumcouch Talk2Me 14:18, 29 October 2006 (UTC) Problem solved, cats & languages are back.

Trivia

please understand the simple fact: the trivia facts that I`ve put are not wrong. In the IMDB biography of preity you can see where is written clearly aboyt her friends in the industry. in the case of female costars, thats an interesting fact and I dont find a reason to remove him. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Shshshsh (talkcontribs) 22:19, 6 December 2006 (UTC).

Removed "Preetam Singh"

I've removed the uncited reference to her birth name being "Preetam Singh", which incidentally is a man's name!

This was actually a nickname given to her by co-actor Bobby Deol (http://www.bollywoodpremiere.com/movies/news/06/jun/bobbypreity_1.php) because of her tomboyish attitude.

Her birth name is Preity Zinta. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sarkar2 (talkcontribs) 02:25, 10 December 2006 (UTC).

Awards

And ditto here. Who cares for the Awards she was nominated for? Isn't it better for an encyclopaedia to list the awards that she has won? This is not a crib sheet for any and every little (usually unsourced) "fact" you can get your hands on, is it? Ekantik talk 03:42, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

Please...

the image of SN on preitys page has been here for very much of time & i dont find a reason to delete him so please dont remove that. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dondoniko (talkcontribs) 20:56, 23 December 2006 (UTC).

The image is fair use from a movie and therefore we cannot keep it. For further information on this issue, see Wikipedia:Fair_use_criteria & WP:FU. Best regards, --Plumcouch Talk2Me 21:50, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
This is freaky. What happened to the image that was previously used? Was it overwritten by this FU-violat image? Ekantik talk 06:17, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

I have not been following the picture war, but I'm vaguely aware of huge upheavals in image land as editors skirmish over "fair use" pictures. Everyone has been assuming that promotional photos, movie posters, album covers, and the like were OK to use in WP. Fair use, we're non-commercial, no one has complained, it's desirable exposure, all that. But the problem is that WP has no restrictions against copying, even by commercial sites -- so conceivably someone could take a picture put up as fair use and try to make commercial use of it. Some people want to keep fair use pictures and some people don't want any pictures that aren't completely public domain. I can't afford to get involved in another controversy, so I'm keeping out of it and waiting for the dust to settle. Sure makes life hard for people working in media-related articles.

Or, it may have been that the picture was copyrighted and not fair use at all. Zora 06:54, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, seems crazy. I even saw one Image-oriented user getting called a "pic-nazi" for fun. Seems like dissension on all sides where pictures are concerned. My picture of Suman Ranganathan was deleted (admittedly it wasn't fair use) but my picture of Crucified Barbara is. Seems like website images can only be used if the website specifically releases pictures as "free", preferably under a "press kit2 section of the site. Ekantik talk 07:13, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Kya Kehna

I saw the new information about Kya Kehna, which was written by anon. it`s a good information and we realy cant ignore that bcoz this film has established Zinta`s career as an actress, so I ask you not to remove that, please. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Shshshsh (talkcontribs) 23:09, 24 December 2006 (UTC).

Edit Wars

I strongly suggest that edit wars taking place over trivial issues such as Preity's "real name" be resolved by referencing a reliable source. Instead of arguing endlessly about what her real name is, why not find a reliable source to back it up?

It might also be a good idea to keep "tag team" rationales out of disputes, vis-a-vis "If Rani's page can have this then so can Preity's!" is a pretty silly argument by any standards since WP:MOS should be consulted in most affairs. Ekantik talk 18:16, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

References

I hate to say it, since I know a lot of people have put in a lot of work here, but the reference tags need fixing. Where it says "work" or "title" in the template, we really need the title of the website or news article or whatever it may be, rather than a summary of what fact is to be found in the article. Career edits

By saying those two later films marked her entry to the Yash Raj Films banner, which considered as the biggest Bollywood production house is a misconception because no-one can vouch for that. Also Tanisha and Kareena Kapoor were also part of this production house and now they aren't doing any films with them. Of course with the exception of Kapoor who is now doing a film with them but after four years. This page is increasingly being fashioned like the Rani Mukherjee article which is a mess.

The edits were sourced and properly referenced. Her career page looks more extended. I have also removed the future releases because we have a filmography table for that. Also there is no need to mention all the films in her career section. If anyone wants to discuss this then please write on this page. -- Pa7 22:32, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Protected

I have placed a short-term protection on this article because a number of editors were violating WP:FU by adding a fair-use image used solely to depict Zinta, or adding a film screenshot missing mandatory information, and then, solely to provide illustration instead of critical commentary. I encourage anyone wanting to add an image here to read WP:FU. This policy is not optional and places specific restrictions on what images we may use here. One editor pointed out that other articles also seem to violate WP:FU but this is reason to fix those articles, not to continue violating the policy here. This protection expires in two days and hopefully will not need to be extended. If anyone has any image they wish to use and aren't sure if it is appropriate, please bring it up here. Remember, no fair-use images to depict Zinta. --Yamla 20:59, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
