Hydro power plant feasibility at Vijayawada from Polavaram Right bank canal.:[edit]

A hydro power plant of 25 MW capacity can be installed by routing Polavaram Right bank canal water to Prakasam barrage via existing Eluru and Pamarru canals. Polavaram Right bank canal is approaching the outskirts of Vijayawada city at 33 m MSL along the hill slopes located north of Ambapuram village (refer 'Google Earth' geographic maps). This point is only 7 km north of Prakasam barrage but the canal takes another 30 km detour to get connected to the Prakasam barrage pond near Ibrahimpatnam town. The existing Eluru and Pamarru canals from Prakasam barrage are dug across the elevated ridge/doab (where Vijayawada city is located) to cross the Krishna river basin and supply water in to lower Budameru river basin. These two canals while crossing the city are deep cut canals (maximum water level below local ground level). Eluru and Pamarru deep cut canals (first 9 km length) can be safely used to feed water (reversing water flow direction) in to Prakasam barrage pond by connecting Polavaram Right bank canal with these canals near Madhura Nagar. A hydraulic drop of nearly 11 meters is available when the Polavaram right bank canal is connected to these canal which would generate 25 MW Hydro power at 10,000 cusecs flow. No land acquisition in Vijawawada city is required as the tail race canal is routed along the Budameru stream to connect to these existing canals. 49.207.244.249 (talk) 12:38, 28 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sileru river water diversion[edit]

Sileru river water before reaching Polavaram reservoir can be diverted to the eastern face of the Eastern Ghats by constructing diversion tunnels. These diversions will enhance 80 tmcft water availability during the main Godavari river lean flow months in East Godavari, Vishakapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakula districts when water level in Polavaram reservoir is below the left bank canal sill level. Please see Sileru River for more data. 49.207.241.167 (talk) 16:51, 20 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Similar to Pattiseema lift irrigation scheme which pumps Godavari river water to the Polavaram right main canal, a similar scheme to lift/pump water in to Polavaram left main canal shall also be taken up for providing irrigation water to East Godavari, Vishakapattanam, etc districts. Yeleru reservoir can supply most of non-monsoon water needs of this canal also till Polavaram project is commissioned. 49.207.221.221 (talk) 17:54, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Alternative to pump Godavari water to Nagarjuna Sagar tail pond[edit]

As the minimum tail water level (TWL) of Pulichinthala dam is 21.6 m MSL, water (joining Krishna river from Polavaram right bank canal) can be pumped in to upstream Pulichinthala reservoir by installing underground pumped storage hydro units on its right bank to lift the water (FRL at 22 m MSL) from the pond created by a new barrage between the Pulichintkala dam and Prakasam barrage. There is no need of lift canal extension to feed to Pulichinthala reservoir. The pumped storage hydro units would also generate secondary power when the river is flooding.

Once the Godavari water is pumped to Pulichinthala reservoir, further water pumping in to the upstream Nagarjuna Sagar tail pond can be achieved by installing pumped storage units at Nagarjunasagar tail pond dam. As the tail water level (48.33 m MSL) of this dam is below the full reservoir level (53.34 m MSL) of the downstream Pulichintala dam, surplus Godavari water in Pulichinthala reservoir can be pumped by envisaging pumped storage units.

This doesn't talk about the name "Indirasagar Polavaram"[edit]

Isn't the name for this project "Indirasagar Polavaram"?
