"Criminals"[edit]

Why is Platon Lebedev placed in the category of 'Russian criminals' and 'Russian white-collar' criminals? Would we also categorise Nelson Mandela, or Jews in Nazi concentration camps as 'criminals' simply because their unjust governments have 'convicted' them? There is something seriously wrong about this. Zodiac4444 (talk) 12:04, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Criminals should only be applied "for an incident that is relevant to the person's notability; the incident was published by reliable third-party sources; the subject was convicted; and the conviction was not overturned on appeal" (WP:BLPCAT), all those criteria are satisfied. Not applying the category based on the judgements of individual editors would not be neutral. Nelson Mandela is in Category:South African politicians convicted of crimes.
