Copyright status[edit]

I have removed the following copyright notice from the article:

Aspects of this article have been reproduced from the Act which is subject to Crown copyright protection which allows it to be reproduced free of charge provided that it is reproduced accurately and that the source and copyright status of the material is made evident to users.

Unfortunately, even though a crown copyright waiver does allow free reproduction of Acts of Parliament, the extra conditions we introduce through the use of the GNU Free Documentation License makes Wikipedia incompatible with the waiver. Under copyright law, I believe we are allowed to summarise a text and also use a few direct quotations. However, if we have quoted a substantial portion of the text, as implied by this notice, then we are in breach of copyright. I will take a look at this as soon as I have time.   • This Act is in the public domain in the United States, where our servers are based, because it is an edict of government. See Wikipedia:Public domain.
  • Wikipedia now uses the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License 3.0 Unported License.
  • The Crown now uses the Open Government Licence.
