Ignatius Petosega[edit]

Ignatius's name was Petosega, not Petoskey. I have a copy of a city guidebook from the 1800's which names him as such. The author of the guidebook even thought the name of the city should be changed to Petosega because Petoskey sounded vaguely Russian. Corbmobile (talk) 04:35, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What Businesses and Organizations should have links here?[edit]

I noticed the casino and some tourist shops have links from the Petoskey article to their own website. I don't see them mentioned anywhere in the article and other then the fact that they are located in Petoskey I don't think there is anything special about them.

What are the rules about linking to external sites? Can any business put a link on their home city article? What does it become advertising?

Notable People[edit]

Apparently the YouTuber berd is from here. I don't know if he's notable enough to be put in the notable people section though. Thing User (talk) 00:01, 11 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Civil War Activism[edit]

This section, detailing a siege of Detroit and battle by Petoskey confederates in 1861, was removed. There were no citations supporting it. The State of Michigan states that there were no Civil War battles in Michigan at any time: https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Publications/CivilWar.pdf (page 19) . Same by the Detroit Historical Society . The alleged Union defenders, 24th Regiment, Michigan Infantry, did not exist until 1862 according to the US National Park Service, so they physically could not have fought a battle in 1861. There is no mention of the battle in the Detroit Free Press in the days of the alleged siege and battle and one day afterwards, while other less weighty matters, such as an ordinance related to billiard halls, made the newspaper's front page. Not to mention that the area was politically inimical to the Confederacy, so the idea that a regiment of 800 Confederate men was raised in Emmet county, which had a total population of 1,149 in 1860 (men, women, children) is not feasible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Icanspellqwerty (talkcontribs) 18:30, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The unsourced "Civil Way Activism" material noted above was reverted/reinstated by User:Coniligusrice after its deletion. Since there is no support for the inclusion, and various support pointing to the falseness of the text, it has been redacted again. Please would User:Coniligusrice review the talk section above and not reinstate again or, if reinstated, cite supporting documentation at least as authoritative as the documents cited above rebutting the material AND note that the whole Civil War "siege of Detroit" concept is disputed. I put it back with a {{cn}} template. Surely, if it exists as a matter of historical fact, then there ought to be more sources. If not corrected within a week, then it should be deleted. 7&6=thirteen () 18:05, 13 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I restored the deletion. Let the proponent find a WP:RS for this. I can't. 7&6=thirteen () 21:33, 13 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
