Time for protection?[edit]

As with the page for Charlie Strap and Froggy Ball Flying High and a few others, this page has had just about every edit for the last two years reverted. Based on the IP addresses editing it, it's the same person, which I noted on the talk page. On that talk page, I noted he has been adding false information and fan fiction for about two years. Changing the title to "Charlie Strap And The Frog Ball On Wuthering Adventures" as he did earlier today is one example of the fan fiction this person spammed on other wikis. —RRabbit42 (talk) 15:38, 11 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

False English cast[edit]

A random check showed that four of the actors listed for the English cast do not have this movie listed amongst their credits on the Internet Movie Database. These actors are: Michael Crawford, Brian Blessed, Wayne Knight and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The movie was released in Sweden on December 25, 1981. There's an eBay auction from back in February that listed it as an October 9, 1986 release on VHS in English, but the company page for the distributor, Children's Video Library (a subsidiary of Vestron Video), lists the US release as 1983. Based on this, it is not possible for Joseph Gordon-Levitt to have voiced a role like The Fireman because he would have been approximately two years old at the time the English cast would have been assembled to record their lines.

As for what the actual English cast is, two pages on Amazon.com show it was released on VHS and DVD, both featuring the same cover artwork. The first page lists the following actors for the English version: Ken Berry, Dom DeLuise, Richard Kline, Tina Louise, Larry Storch, June Lockhart and William Schallert. This is confirmed by looking at the back cover that's featured on the DVD page. None of these actors are listed on the page for this film, and that artwork for the back cover appears to be the closest to an official cast list for the English version as I can find. The edits by VeganRodent for the English cast from a few hours ago appear to be fan fiction or a wish list of actors rather than the actual English actors, and therefore the Finnish cast he added twenty minutes after that is also suspect. —RRabbit42 (talk) 03:26, 18 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I found a few versions of this movie on YouTube. The original Swedish version lists the full cast and crew, but does not include anything from "The Man" on down to "The Hedgehog". The French version was incomplete for its credits, but only listed four actors and not what roles they played. The English version with the British cast only listed five actors and their roles (Peter, Mean Mike, Bill, Bull and Molly). The only video I could find for the American cast cut off right as the credits began. I have not been able to locate a Finnish version.

In the non-Swedish versions of the movie, the opening and ending credit sequences were not re-animated over the original backgrounds. The Swedish credits were cut out and replaced with simple text of the cast and credits in the dubbed language. This indicates that the production time to convert the film from Swedish to the other languages was very short, and therefore the times the actors would have recorded the voices in those other languages would have been fairly near to its release in 1983.

In modern movies, minor roles like "The Man" through "The Hedgehog" would either not be credited or an actor might be listed under "Additional Voices" and the specific role they voiced would not be identified. The Fact Sheet available at the page for this film at the Swedish Film Institute's Swedish Film Database has a shorter cast list than what is here on Wikipedia.

Looking through the rest of the supposed (American) English cast, there are other discrepancies:

Clarence Nash: died two years after the English version was released and he primarily worked for the Disney company, so he is unlikely to have been a part of this film

Actors that died before the movie was made (1981) / released in another language (1983):

Martha Wentworth (died 1974): seven years / nine years
Sebastian Cabot (died 1977): four years / six years
Luis van Rooten (died 1973): eight years / ten years
Barbara Luddy (died 1979): two years / four years

Actors that were born after the movie was released in English

Daveigh Chase (born 1990): seven years

As noted before, Joseph Gordon-Levitt would have been two years old in 1983 and therefore unable to provide a voice for an adult character like "The Fireman" for the American English version of this film.

Discrepancies in the Swedish cast:

Henrik Olsson ("The Man"): a television presenter that does not appear to have any movie credits in his career
Hans Rosenfeldt ("Truckdriver"): he is an actor, but according to what's on the IMDb, he appears to have started his acting career in 1988, seven years after the movie was released
Rickard Olsson ("The Fireman"): a television and radio presenter, also does not appear to have any movie credits
Jesper Rönndahl ("Glee Club Cat"): stand-up comedian and radio personality, born June 27, 1979. He would have been less than two years old at the time the voices were recorded for this movie.

There is no record of when production started on this film, but let's pick two years since that's probably about right for a hand-drawn animated film like this. Based on that, the only actor that died prior to the movie's release that had any chance of possibly recording English lines for the movie was Barbara Luddy. And that would depend on the movie being animated to the actor's voices and timing of their delivery, and not having the actor base their delivery and performance on what is already animated.

It is likely that the Swedish Film Institute made the decision to dub this film into English over a year after its original release in Sweden. If it was a case of they had plans for a multi-language release when the film was being made, then the release date for France, the UK and the US would probably been in 1982 instead of 1983. Release dates between nations were not as close together back then as they are now, so a few months after a movie was released in one country, it would show up in a different country.

To wrap this up, based on the research I did, this may be a case of VeganRodent is attempting to fill in these roles when they do not have an official credit. Or, stating it less politely, it's pretty much guaranteed to be fan fiction, false information and/or vandalism. —RRabbit42 (talk) 19:09, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
