The Manga[edit]

I think there should be a lot more written about the manga. There are so many stories and characters that aren't written about on this page that would make the article better. I would do it myself, but I haven't read the manga in a while, so I feel that if I did it, many facts would be wrong. --64.12.116.134 16:43, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Differences between versions??[edit]

I've only read this series in Japanese (Oozora Shuppan). There seems to be differences in the character info, are they from a particular English edition or a poor fan translation. I would like to see it noted in which release and where these differences occur. I am aware that Tokyopop change the names of some of the chapters (and maybe the order??) and there may have been changes in the Asahisonorama reissues (don't know for sure, I only have the last volume of that edition for the extras).

But to the point: Pon-chan, where does it say she is a badger?? In the Japanese version she is a Raccoon (araiguma, Procyon lotor), she does get called a Tanuki once in Desperation (I guess for comedic effect, it is already established that she is in fact a raccoon, including making a joke of raccoon's habit of washing food.) In Japanese an Eurasian Badger is called an anaguma(Meles meles). I have seen the name araiguma incorrectly attributed to a Eurasian Badger in one particular dictionary, EDICT, last version I saw this in was the dictionary file created on January 2006, the www interface has since been corrected, I haven't had a chance to see the latest download file yet.

point the second: Femuto, or if you like Fehmut, the cat. Since when does he belong to D? In Dice he did make an appearance, it was mentioned in the back that he was an extra (kind of like working on contract). For some background, He is a character from Akino's previous series Reikan Shouhou Kabushikigaisha (not released in English to the best of my knowledge) Main character:Tokiwa, support:Femut, Master, etc. In Shin Petshop of Horrors (two appearances Ch. 10 & 12) he is still living in Japan with Tokiwa. --'nnic 07:05, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A possible reference[edit]

In the animated version of 'Delicious' the mermaid cuts Ethan's ear and licks the blood off. This might be a reference to the four humours in Medieval times, as 'sanguine' was believed to be the humour connected with love, and believed to come from the blood and liver. I put it here because I wasn't sure whether or not to mention it.

An other, this time (at least to me) quite clear reference in the beginning of the first volume of the manga: D sells Gremlins to a customer. The rules (dont feed after midnight, don't let water near it) are on spot, the depiction is shadowy, but still.Nagi603 (talk) 00:00, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty sure it is a small homage to the Gremlins movies. Also, the title is a play off of "Little Shop of Horrors". There are probably many more references to pop culture in the series than that.

Removal of pictures.[edit]

I have removed the cover images in the volume summaries. I did this because of WP:NFCC which states (from 3(a)) Minimal use. As little non-free content as possible is used in an article. Short rather than long video and audio excerpts are used. Multiple items are not used if one will suffice; one is used only if necessary.. Having 10 covers are not needed, when only one for the infobox is needed.--Toffile 04:07, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

English adaptation[edit]

I think there needs to be at least a mention of the differences between the English and Japanese versions. I've read the series in Japanese first, and even though I've only read a couple of volumes from the English adaptation, I noticed glaring differences between the two. In fact, based on the volumes I've read, the English version seems to be a loose adaptation rather than a translation. The translator tends to rewrite not only small and inconsequential "asides" but entire dialogues; he also inserted lines not present in the Japanese original, which cause differences in story and characterization. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.132.241.69 (talk) 15:35, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Live Action adaption[edit]

There was an announcement of a Live Action Petshop of Horror’s movie in the Wiki. Now I see that it has been removed from the article and there is no mention anywhere as to why it was taken down.

A few sources, though granted they are two years old are: [1], [2], and [3]

The only problem is that I can’t seem to find any other information than “it’s in the planning stage,” which leads me to believe that the project has fell though and is no longer in consideration for being a live action movie. Klebkatt 04:07, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Shonen-ai?[edit]

Although I haven't read the manga, the resume and characters don't mention anything about Shonen-ai. Why is it cathegorized as such? I might have missed a detail, though. --190.234.29.98 (talk) 00:28, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's not Shonen-ai series. I don't think it should be categorized as such. The pairing Count D/Leon is quite popular in fanon, but it's not an official pairing. The only really shonen-ai thing I would say in the series is the story that introduced Tet-chan. He was obviously hitting on Count D (though there was a rather unromantic reason for that) and he even kissed him. Also, there are some one shot stories with same-sex couples.
