This article has been reviewed as part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/Project quality task force in an effort to ensure all listed Good articles continue to meet the Good article criteria. In reviewing the article, I have found there are some issues that may need to be addressed, listed below. I will check back in seven days. If these issues are addressed, the article will remain listed as a Good article. Otherwise, it may be delisted (such a decision may be challenged through WP:GAR). If improved after it has been delisted, it may be nominated at WP:GAN. Feel free to drop a message on my talk page if you have any questions, and many thanks for all the hard work that has gone into this article thus far.

• The lead says that: "Perl was originally developed by Larry Wall, a linguist working as a systems administrator for NASA"; but the first paragraph of the History section says that: "Larry Wall began work on Perl in 1987, while working as a programmer at Unisys".

• There are three external links in the Windows subsection. External links should appear only in the External links section.

• The Language structure section contains far too much detail and is written like a programming manual; it has been flagged as such since December 2008.

• "CPAN is widely regarded as one of the greatest strengths of Perl in practice." Statements like this need to be cited. Who says so?

• "At the time of writing, it carries more than 15,000 modules by more than 7,000 authors." All statistics need to be cited. When is this "time of writing"?

• Why are some quotations italicised, like No unnecessary limits, and others not? Quotations should be formatted as per the Manual of Style.

• There are sections which are almost completely uncited: Design, Implementation, and Applications for instance.

• There has been a request for citation in the Optimizing section since July 2007, and another in Future since October 2007.

• There are too many short and stubby subsections in the The Perl community section.

• Section titles ought not to include "the", as in The Perl community.

• All citations must give full details, including title, publisher, and last access date.

• The External links section looks like a linkfarm. It needs to be pruned according to WP:EL.

• The lead is too short to adequately summarise the article.
