Consumer co-operative?[edit]

Is there a citation for this being a consumer co-op (i.e. owned by its users)?

'Owned by its supporters' is perhaps more appropriate. Might shareholders never buy or read the paper? Perhaps, but I guess that would make it not a co-operative at all (plausible.) If we take its own description as a co-operative, then it makes sense to me to help Wikipedia readers by classifying it as a consumer co-operative not a producer or worker co-operative.

There are several types of co-operatives other than those three, though - the Co-operatives UK website lists a few. A consumer co-operative is a specific and defined thing, and that description doesn't really tie: it sounds like a multi-stakeholder co-operative to me, but that would be OR. I don't think this co-op should be included on the Consumer Co-operatives template, if only because there isn't actually a sitation for anyone saying they're a consumer co-op. Saying they are is a best guess piece of OR based on their statement about who they sold shares to. JonStrines (talk) 10:09, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, looking at the way C-UK define these things it's probably a community co-operative, with the community being "supporters of PPPS" rather than geographical. But that's equally OR :) JonStrines (talk) 14:09, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wasn't aware of that classification list. At first glance, your conclusion sounds like straightforward editing, not original research. OR or not, I think it is OK to remove it from the template. --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 22:39, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Removed from template then - nice doing business with you :) JonStrines (talk) 09:29, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I can't find that C-UK list you mentioned. Could you post a link please? --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 13:55, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not surprised you can't find it - the site seems to have been changed since I last looked, but the definitions I'm referring to can be found in the PDF here. JonStrines (talk) 15:15, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Following up at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Cooperatives#New types of co-op?. --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 22:45, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merge with Morning Star[edit]

This article is still a stub and there is not much here which would not already be covered by the Morning Star article. Should it be merged back into the parent article? Extua (talk) 20:23, 22 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
