Name[edit]

Hi. I apologize for my English. The name of this actress in official form is Oona Castilla, because in Spanish-speaking countries people has two apellidos (~ family names): the first one from father's first family name and the last one from mother's first family name. I.e. the complete name of Rafael Nadal is Rafael Nadal Parera, but nobody calls him Rafael Parera or Mr. Parera. Hiya! First of all, don't worry about your English, it is very good! :) Thanks for pointing this out, but I think at least in the English-speaking world Oona Chaplin really uses the name 'Chaplin' instead of 'Castilla' as her stage name (for example, if you look at the titles of any of the tv series she's been in or google interviews in the British and American press, she's always named as 'Oona Chaplin'). Therefore, her full official name, Oona Castilla Chaplin, is stated in the infobox, but the article is titled 'Oona Chaplin' and she is talked of as 'Chaplin' throughout the article because that is the name she uses in her career. IPA[edit]

The pronunciation provided does not conform with the notation standards used on this site for phonetic assistance. I do not wish to offend or criticize the contributor, but the IPA pronunciation given for her name is flat out wrong—there's no way around that! It is also utterly absurd. My guess is that its contributor is not actually very familiar with the IPA system.

The pronunciation listed is not even correct for Spanish speakers (although it's closest to that than to any other pronunciation); and it is certainly not the American or British pronunciation of her name (She is reported as having American heritage/decent & British residency, where her career is based & active); nor the way she pronounces her name herself. And this is also absolutely not the way her name is pronounced by anyone in the English speaking media (neither British nor American). If anyone wishes to dispute that, please provide reference links that support your assertion with audio content (spoiler alert: not going to happen).

Since this article is in English and she herself is a native English speaker, with an English speaking heritage and her career is most active in an English-speaking country where she also resides: the pronunciation should reflect that by including the Anglicized (and Americanized) pronunciation(s). "Most notable role"[edit]

I've deleted the sentence about her 'most notable role', because there were no sources for this claim, and while GoT might be the biggest tv series she's acted in so far, it is debatable whether she is best known for it. For example, in the UK she is also well known for The Hour and also received a lot of publicity for Dates –– her roles were also more substantial in both. She was also famous in Spain before she ever had any substantial English-language roles. In any case, she's not very famous and mostly works as a supporting actor, so debating on what her most notable role is might be futile. If one wants to add something about her career to the lead, perhaps something like "most notably known for her roles in GoT, The Hour and Dates" could perhaps be better. According to what is already written, she maintains both Spanish and Swiss citizenship, therefore contradicting the introductory sentence which states that she is a “Spanish-English actress.” Wikimetothebone (talk) 04:17, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
