Big DS[edit]

  • Anyone know when and how he died? Should probably be in the article somewhere. tomasz. 19:45, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's pretty insignificant, tomasz. Consider focusing your efforts elsewhere, ideally away from Wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.184.23.247 (talk) 04:12, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Underground hip hop?[edit]

How can this group be called underground hip hop? They are NOT underground. They got popular with their debut album and the song "Slam" was extremely popular. They aren't underground at all. The rapper Necro is an example of underground hip hop. Anyways, underground hip hop has NO sources, so we should remove it. Statik N (talk) 19:59, 3 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know how else to get through to you. A single genre is not an all-or-nothing permanent description of an artist or group. They can grow and expand and change. They were unsigned for years, you think that doesn't make them underground when they were performing for like 15 people in empty venues? Look at someone like Everlast (musician), who has unambiguously performed in multiple different genres, sometimes on the same album. Would you say he was never a rapper because "What it's like" was a really popular song? Or would you say he never sang blues because "Jump Around" isn't a blues song? That's ridiculous. Even better, look at Lauryn Hill; she has even more disparate genres. There's thousands of examples of this. I didn't respond initially because I was looking for guidance at the music WikiProject or the MOS for infoboxes, but it's not codified anywhere that more than one genre can exist per artist because it's probably such obvious common sense. Three 6 Mafia were underground one time and then became really popular. Does that mean they should be labeled as underground hip hop? If your debut album was popular and your early singles were popular, then you aren't underground. Underground hip hop is unsourced. No sources=no being put in the genre field. Calling Onyx underground hip hop is EXTREMELY misleading. And again, no sources=no being put in the genre field, and underground hip hop is unsourced. Wikipedia:Other stuff exists is not the point, if Three 6 Mafia were underground hip hop then add it there, what's your point? You make no sense. Onyx formed in 1988 and didn't chart until 1993. Were they hugely successful all that time prior? Obviously not. You haven't addressed any of my points and are intent on doing nothing but repeating yourself, a clear case of WP:ICANTHEARYOU. Genres, especially in infoboxes, are almost never sourced as that is both silly and distracting. Please await consensus to make the change that you want, or find a more productive way to contribute to the encyclopedia without edit-warring. JesseRafe (talk) 19:45, 6 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If the music group had mainstream success then they are not underground. Underground hip hop is unsourced anyways. Onyx were very popular when their first album came out. Do not add underground hip hop to the genre field unless you have at least one citation for it. The article calling Onyx "underground hip hop" and then saying they had mainstream success is extremely self-contradicting. It will confuse readers. As long as this discussion is happening on Wikipedia, you both need to refocus your arguments to be in the terms of sourcing. Are there reliable, third party sources that directly label them as "underground hip hop" or not? Sergecross73 msg me 21:54, 19 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I looked for sources that call Onyx "underground hip hop" and I found nothing. Statik N (talk) 23:31, 19 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
