Olive tanager only used for Chlorothraupis frenata[edit]

The name "Olive tanager" has only ever been used for Chlorothraupis frenata - now Yellow-lored Tanager. Before the split the English name "Carmiol's Tanager" was used for the combined species. HBW (2011), Ridgely & Tudor (2009) and the IOC split the species and used "Olive tanager" for Chlorothraupis frenata. SACC has recently split the species and adopted "Yellow-lored Tanager" for Chlorothraupis frenata - this has now been adopted by the IOC (and by Clements). @Aa77zz:, the SACC discussion notes that "“Olive Tanager” had also been used to refer to the C. carmioli sensu lato". The proposal to treat frenata and carmioli also notes "the confusion regarding the application of the name “Olive Tanager”".

Ochre-breasted tanager (in a discussion of similar species) says "olive tanager occurs further south in the eastern foothills of the Andes in southern Colombia, Peru and Bolivia, with a disjunct population in Central America"; that range is clearly referring to C. carmioli sensu lato.Plantdrew (talk) 18:14, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
