Name[edit]

I know that Oilcreek is not standard, but I think it's still the official name of the township. I only quickly glimpsed at the pdf file provided as a reference for the change. I noticed that the map has it spelled Oilcreek, but the text gives it as Oil Creek. Perhaps the 'Oil Creek' is a typo? Dincher (talk) 20:36, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I just did a search of the PDF and 'Oil Creek Township' only comes up once and it never mentions a name change. Dincher (talk) 20:39, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's not a name change but a name correction in the Census Bureau that was only reported in 2009. It was never "Oilcreek" and has always been "Oil Creek". However, because the Census Bureau used the incorrect name for a long time, the incorrect name has propagated to various lists. The 2010 map on the Census Bureau website uses the correct name of "Oil Creek".[1] See also [2], which uses "oil creek" as the primary name with "oilcreek" being listed as a variant. --Polaron | Talk 20:48, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
