Establishing notability[edit]

Transcribing from my talk page archive to avoid further confusion about the WP:SINGLEEVENT guideline.

A notability flag is not synonymous with bringing an article to AfD or wanting it to be merged or redirected – the article just hits the borders of the notability criteria at the moment and needs to be improved with more references. So far, it has three sources covering a single event (his death and a press conference at which he appeared) and another short non-independent profile from Capcom. A few reliable independent sources with significant coverage (such as extensive biographies or interviews with him) would go a long way of establishing the subject's notability.

If anyone finds a nice long interview with him that was released by an independent publisher, that would help improve the article a lot. Thanks in advance! Prime Blue (talk) 16:33, 11 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't WP:SINGLEEVENT relating to a single event that one took part in (his or her role in a single event; only notable for that incident - it's all written very clearly), like in this case it would be: "he did one screenplay, then died"? Which is not the case here, it's clearly not about sources. Read the policies that you cite. --94.246.150.68 (talk) 08:40, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Again, an article on a person needs sources with significant coverage, not a passing mention or focus on events, to fulfill the general notability guideline. I do think that notability for the subject is there – which is why I do not bring it up at AfD – but that does not change the fact that it needs independent reliable sources with significant coverage to establish notability.
