Ted's future wife[edit]

While I think it is highly possible that Ted actually meets his future wife in this episode (and my money is on the girl who Ted accidentally bumps into at the 13:26 mark of this episode), there is no conclusive evidence. The only thing we have at this point in time is that both the club girl and the girl with the yellow umbrella are both wearing blue jeans (as evidenced when we get an overheard shot of the line for the club and the umbrella at the start of the episode).

I removed the blurb about his wife being the girl he steals the tab from. Firstly, it hasn't been confirmed by anyone. As such, it's baseless speculation. Secondly, it doesn't belong on an episode page, let alone in the middle of the summary. Mikebach (talk) 20:12, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh come on. It's the girl he bumped into. When he bumped into her, we see her hands, and one of them is open, signifying that she has dropped something. Um, wasn't she the girl outside with the yellow umbrella? They have the same build and the same outfit. It's. Freaking. There isn't ANY proof about her being the mother. The creators could've done that just to screw with us. And open hands doesn't mean much. It's AAAALLLLLLLL speculation. See discussion above. The model/actress is Nicole Muirbrook. This point was mentioned in an earlier version of the article. It is speculation to say she is the Mother and the writers can always change it later but with sources we could include notes saying that there has been speculation that she is the mother and let readers make their own conclusions. It's obvious from the superfluous nature of the scene in the context of the episode (it's not even a gag or set up for a gag) that the inclusion of it is for a purpose further down the line. The writers would not think that Ted bumping into a girl and briefly apologising would serve any purpose in the episode otherwise. Do you think they would be saying "Before the bit where Barney does a funny rant, let's have Ted bump into a girl. That will be gold"? No way. Good television articles include Critical commentary. I've tried to start adding such commentary to many of the HIMYM articles, to at least give an overall ranking even if I don't have time to paraphrase the remarks from the critics. For this article we could summarize the New York Magazine article that speculates that Nicole Muirbrook is the mother. It is something I might get around to doing eventually but I wanted to have more sources and not just rely on the theories of one critic. I would encourage you to add notes on this to the critical response section but try to be careful, state the observable facts, summarize the observations from the article, but try to avoid adding your own original research. Although you may be convinced this is obvious, we really have no proof. The writers often use Barney lying as a way to cover up continuity errors and Future Ted has repeatedly been called an unreliable narrator, and even without those two big trap doors the writers have plenty of other ways to get out of any corners they might have written themselves into. I've added a section to the critical response. Other editors will probably want to clean it up. I'll probably need help to stop the trigger happy editors from deleting it instead of making an effort to work and improve the section. Article now has lots of reviews, nearly all of which mention/ask/speculate if Ted met the mother in this episode. There was far more commentary on this than I had suspected and there is simply no excuse to delete the point, but the wording could still stand to be rephrased.

I'm not sure if it is appropriate to mention this in the main article for How I Met Your Mother and maybe it deserves a short note on the page for Nicole Muirbrook something about how the minor role gained some attention as reviewers speculated she was the mother.

After all this I think it would be hilarious if someday they pulled a "same character different actress" and made fake flashbacks to the old episodes inserting the mother into scenes she had never appeared in and then simply blaming it on Future Ted as an unreliable narrator. -- Horkana (talk) 14:37, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
