Merger discussion[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
The result of this discussion was merge. This is based on four editors supporting the merger and one opposing it. The articles have identical taxoboxes, and the fact that this tree has a single scientific name but multiple common names seems conclusive to me. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 08:09, 13 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A merger seems to have been proposed but no merger discussion seems to have been initiated, so I will make the proposal now.

I propose to merge Njangsa into Ricinodendron as the two articles refer to the same species. I think that the scientific name is better for the title of the merged article as being universally applicable, whereas "Njangsa" and other common names are only locally relevant, as can be seen from the lead paragraph of the Njangsa article. The final title should be Ricinodendron to accord with policy, it being a monotypic genus. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:56, 4 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose, These should be kept separate as is done with other instances of food stuff from a plant exists. Njangsa is clearly an article on the food and uses of the species while Ricinodendron is the article on the botany and taxonomy of the genus and species.--Kevmin § 18:07, 4 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Merge - looks like Abductive posted the merge tags in May. I don't see that separated articles would ever grow so large that they would need to be two and not one. I think it serves readers to keep them together. --Nessie (talk) 21:27, 4 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Merge - as per Nessie. Lavateraguy (talk) 22:27, 4 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
