Discussion

Producer, composer, rhythm guitarist and founder member of Chic. His solo production credits include Madonna, Jeff Beck, David Bowie, David Lee Roth, Mick Jagger and Duran Duran. As well as his work with Chic he has also written soundtracks for Beverly Hills Cop III ,Earth Girls Are Easy and Coming to America.

Note: May 8, 2009, a charity group attempted to use the biography of Rodgers to establish a case against the producer's reputation after he pulled out of charity performance during the inauguration of President Obama, citing that the group had failed to contract a reasonable number of hotel rooms due to unforseen circumstances or poor planning. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.52.210.14 (talk) 12:46, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Good Times bassline

Good Times signals the start of the take-off of hip hop music as its sample immensely contributed to the success of SugarHill Gang's Rapper's Delight, the first rap hit ever.

I'm pretty sure it was not a sample, but was replayed by the Sugarhill house band. Not quite sure enough (nothing to cite) to change the article though - can anyone confirm?

→I thought the same thing - but [NPR clip] seems to imply that it was early sampling....

Recent edits

A number of edits have been made in the last few days by User:NileRodgersProd, whose name suggests a direct link with the article subject. Many of the edits are neutral and helpful; however, some have promotional wording. I've drawn the editor's attention to WP:COI. Per the guidance at WP:AUTOBIO, there are other avenues available if Mr Rodgers or his management want to improve the article, to correct errors, etc.. But, that should be done by unconnected editors rather than by anyone with a conflict of interest. So, I hope that User:NileRodgersProd will contribute on this page, so that their suggestions for improving the article can be considered by independent editors. Mentioned at WP:COIN. The edits aren't that bad, but need citations. He seems to have been involved with a lot of big names, which is the sort of thing that needs reliable sources for each name. (New Music Express reports him performing with Daft Punk, for example. [1]) There's also too much promotional-sounding material. Most or all of the claims are probably true, but someone needs to do the homework of citing them. John Nagle (talk) 19:30, 8 August 2014 (UTC)
I've only just noticed that User:NileRodgersProd has been blocked, but of course New York-based IP 68.173.123.153 may well be the same person. The old article on 15 July, prior to the COI edits, wasn't very good, but I'm not sure that the current version is much of an improvement - particularly the section on "The Hitmaker", which is laughably POV. The whole article is also somewhat over-illustrated, by images provided by the management. Shame. Ghmyrtle (talk) 19:49, 8 August 2014 (UTC)
PS: I've now removed most of the overtly promotional material about the Fender "Hitmaker" guitar. Much work still to be done though. Ghmyrtle (talk) 20:05, 8 August 2014 (UTC)
