Note[edit]

Just noting that I've dewatchlisted this albatross. I've no comment on its current state and have no plans to make improvements to it. Chubbles (talk) 21:36, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dude this chick is totally writing herself up. This article should be reduced to Nikki Hornsby: performed a theme song for a homophobic radio show. The End — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.84.125.35 (talk) 21:52, 7 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Added that Nikki Hornsby and the Rangers is not Hornsby and the Range --had me fooled at first. Cramyourspam (talk) 05:36, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Grammy voter[edit]

Really? That's not much of a distinction. I stopped being one (after more than 10 years) because I didn't feel like paying the dues any more. I got to be one by having 5 credits on CDs; in my case, for writing liner notes. Roger.Lustig (talk) 15:06, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

To be a Grammy Voting Member is NOT the same as a member. The voting membership requires CHARTING PROOF provided to the NARAS committee to be accepted. Today it is currently 12 original songs. Time that Nikki Hornsby was sent applications to join it was only six releases where Miss Hornsby had already charted for broadcast 20 you can find that fact on www.cjp-nhrecords.com. The membership status is for some only by paying dues but being a VOTING member is by distinction for those wanting a Grammy must be judged by their piers who have achieved status of proven works as VOTING Members. Roger.Lustig I hope you've gone back to the Grammy.com page to see exactly How To be accepted as a Voting member vs. just paying member fees of the NARAS organization where the songs are judged by merit and not popularity. 2600:8801:8104:DC00:A16E:73EA:4B55:4CB3 (talk) 21:44, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Nikki! If I wasn't a voting member, why did I get nominating and voting ballots in the mail every year for 10 years?
Thanks for sending me a Facebook friend request today. You're not fooling anybody.Roger.Lustig (talk) 02:17, 27 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Simply put Mr. Lustig Roger, you are nominated by someone within the NARAS membership for a record label release even yourself may nominate if you were not paid or contracted by a record label who needed the "Grammy Effect" from being in the Top Five. CJPStaff does not need to fool anyone Mr. Roger as you may not understand the system of the NARAS being just a liner note person on CDs which is very honorable type job.
Also Miss Hornsby would not try to fool you or anyone either as you may see the jpg on the websites showing her 10 years as a Voting Member of the NARAS. Please understand you are welcomed to call any of the professional musicians that have worked for her or those who have known her for over 25 years to verify her ethics and good character. She has accomplished a great deal and Wikipedia.org was to note the TRUE FACTUAL data of her lifelong career in the music recording industry. Thank you for your time. You may want to help her instead of providing harm in the future. 68.7.39.189 (talk) 23:43, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have returned the content that I deleted. I shouldn't have handled it that way. Please see Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines, though.–CaroleHenson (talk) 01:59, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

BLP tag[edit]

There are considerable issues with this page, and particularly since it is a Biography of a living person. It has way too much content, most of which is not cited, and is clearly promotional.

I applied the BLP tag on this article in the event that someone wanted to work on adding citations. If not, it seems to me that all uncited content should be removed and/or nominated for deletion.

From Wikipedia:Guide to deletion. For instance, one method is a prod process: "For unsourced articles about living persons, adding {{prod blp}} will propose the BLP for deletion. If sources are not added within 7 days, the article may be deleted."–CaroleHenson (talk) 21:32, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The easiest resolution is to return it to this version, I would be happy to look for citations that are needed in four places. And, add an infobox with a link to their website.–CaroleHenson (talk) 21:55, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It seems a good idea to go back to that version, CaroleHenson. If you wanted to add an infobox you'd be free to do so. (Opinions on bio-infoboxes differ; in my opinion, most are worthless, and many detract.) ¶ Background information about the sorry history of this PR piece: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/CJP Staff/Archive. ¶ Chubbles, please come back! -- Hoary (talk) 01:06, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, Hoary. I get your point about the infobox. We could just put the picture of Hornsby back up without the infobox and have the website below in External links. I found some articles in newspapers.com that provide some background - tied to her grandfather here, so that's a start. There are 99 other newspaper articles that mention her, but I am not sure how many of those have background / biographical info. There's a few books with minor mentions here.
Oh. My. Goodness. There have been lots of issues. I am surprised that it has gone on this long. Perhaps we can wait seven days (like would happen with a prod nomination) and see what responses come in on either reverting to the early version, someone offering to find sources, or nominate it for deletion.
Based on the patterns of content additions from IP users over the years, I recommend asking the page to be protected.–CaroleHenson (talk) 01:30, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed the "prod deletion process". It seems most reasonable and likely solution is to have some version of the article remain. I popped in a couple of thoughts about sources and look forward to ideas about how to save this article, making it one that will resolve the BLP and other issues.–CaroleHenson (talk) 02:09, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I did some gardening. It's not perfect, but it's better, and will take indefinite vigilance to keep in an acceptable state. Chubbles (talk) 02:52, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, Chubbles! Much better, thank you! I will see what sources I can find beyond the newspaper clipping and books that I found that might be helpful.
It's my experience that it's easy to keep a fully cited, no-tags-or need-for-tags-article clean, so hopefully that will be so. I'll see what I can do to help.
Are the codes like "(NH#1088)" needed in the column of the Discography table? It seems confusing, but maybe I am out of the loop.–CaroleHenson (talk) 03:02, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's reasonably encyclopedic to include catalog numbers if someone is putting together a comprehensive discography, and that's what I assume those are. I have to leave off for a bit so I probably won't make any more edits to the article today. Chubbles (talk) 03:05, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I went through the article and was able to find sources for the body of the article, except that she was born in Long Beach, Califorina. I have seen that she's lived or is living there, though, somewhere.

The verbiage in the article changed in some cases based upon what I could find in sources.

Are there sources for the discography section, or could it be assumed that since they have a catalog number, that's a kind of source?

I will do a bit of searching to see if there's anything more recent that might add to the article, but this looks really good now - and no tags! Yay! Thanks so much to Chubbles for finding a workable version!–CaroleHenson (talk) 04:28, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I wasn't able to find anything recent... and I went through newspaper articles from the present back to the 1980s and all I found was that she was originally from Long Beach. I went through a number of ways to find more information - and I think the article as it stands represents the totality of useable published information.
Perhaps a website for Nikki Hornsby is the way to go to present unpublished information about her.–CaroleHenson (talk) 05:28, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Recent edits[edit]

I am reverting an addition here, because it's a social networking site / self-published. See WP:RS/SPS.–CaroleHenson (talk) 20:23, 1 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I also made these minor edits because singer-songwriter is not needed here and it diminishes all he did in the industry. I don't remember seeing "early Americana" anywhere: what is it? where from? - just a couple of clean-up items, returning a citation, etc.

Please don't remove citations from the article. I realize that in this case it's in the intro, but since it's there, it shows exactly where the info came from.

I don't think I can {{ping}} IP users, so I will post a message on their talk page.–CaroleHenson (talk) 20:36, 1 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I see where you were trying to go with Grandpa. How is this edit?–CaroleHenson (talk) 20:54, 1 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

IP User edits[edit]

There are occasional edits to this and the Dan Hornsby article. Some of the edits are helpful, like fixing a spelling issue. Many of the edits involve

  • slipping in content that doesn't come from the cited source for the sentence
  • adding uncited content
  • changing content that is compliant with guidelines like WP:Commonname and WP:Surname

I am just recording this here, because there is no user page or consistent IP user page to post it to.

Please only add content that has a source, see WP:References.–CaroleHenson (talk) 02:16, 22 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Incident opened at ANI about disruptive edits[edit]

An incident has been opened regarding the Dan Hornsby and Nikki Hornsby articles at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Dan Hornsby and Nikki Hornsby disruption / vandalism by IP user(s)CaroleHenson (talk) 15:32, 30 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The conclusion of the incident was in this version:
"Protection is the only viable next move. 3 months semi on both (Dan Hornsby and Nikki Hornsby, and we can evaluate from there. I made it long enough to encourage the IPs to talk, not just wait it out." Courcelles (talk) 13:05, 2 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Recent edit - Linkedin[edit]

I reverted this edit. Linkedin is a social media site and not a reliable source. I have tried searching newspapers.com and books.google with no luck.

I am betting that it's more likely that she's in a magazine or journal for musicians. Can you find this info there? I will try looking more places, too. This would be a good addition.–CaroleHenson (talk) 20:17, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I wonder if there's confusion with Bruce Hornsby. He received a nomination from NARAS for a Grammy here.–CaroleHenson (talk) 20:24, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The IP here seems pretty adamant that it was Nikki, for what it's worth. DrOrinScrivello (talk) 20:31, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, DrOrinScrivello. I will keep looking for a sourcee for Grammy voting member for Nikki. There are several social media pages that say that. Just need to find a reliable source.–CaroleHenson (talk) 20:44, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I found this source, which seems to have taken profile info from her company's website. This seems is to be the best source that I could find.–CaroleHenson (talk) 20:55, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict)

The Bruce Hornsby item is the only hit where a person with the surname Hornsby and NARAS are mentioned in the same article in 2006. I tried searching just for Nikki in 2006 and just got one hit related to a wedding.–CaroleHenson (talk) 20:38, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Women in Music
  • As I was searching, though, I did find this and second instance at this link, though about a Women in Music nomination in 2011.–CaroleHenson (talk) 20:38, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Done I have added the Grammy voting member + 2011 Women in Music nominee info to the article.–CaroleHenson (talk) 21:09, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
minor edits with strike-out and underline above.–CaroleHenson (talk) 21:13, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Uncited content[edit]

Please stop adding uncited content here and here.

I am happy to do the research if you can post the content you'd like to have covered here. As you likely just saw, I found a source for the Grammy voting member part - and added the 2011 nomination for Women in Music here.–CaroleHenson (talk) 21:22, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

And here. I left the changes to the infobox alone - website doesn't really need a source, it's its own source, but I removed the uncited content in the intro.–CaroleHenson (talk) 21:25, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected edit request on 17 October 2023[edit]

Sometime ago the edit of the Nikki Hornsby page left out a very important data information as she was given documentation and was a Voting member of the national association of recording artist and sciences aka NARAS. The document of that is found online http://www.cjp-nhrecords.com first page. There has been many other factual data that was removed from Nikki Hornsby Wikipedia page as well as her notable grandfather who also worked a lifetime in the music recording industry. How can that true verifiable data about Grammy voting member be returned? We do not have staff at this time to do this at CJP-NHRecords offices and may we have assistance from the editors group? There are other sources online or off that can verify any prior facts that were on Nikki Hornsby Wikipedia pages prior. Thank you very much. 2600:8801:8100:600:A803:6AA6:27CA:3FCF (talk) 19:59, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Not done That a musician is a voting member of a professional organization is not generally regarded as important enough to include in encyclopedias. If there were some published magazine or book or newspaper article that discussed her association with NARAS in depth, perhaps it would be worthy of inclusion. Also, we do not take requests from management companies with a conflict of interest in their clients. Thank you. Chubbles (talk) 05:21, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the alternate spelling of John Jorgensen (edit from sen-->son). If the surname is wrong, it should be changed in that article.

I saw in JJ's article that his website is johnjorgenson.com - surely he'd know how to spell his name for his own website, right?

If I am missing something, it would be good to sort it out.–CaroleHenson (talk) 04:50, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
