ICD-10 code[edit]

I'm in two minds about removing the ICD-10 code. Whilst searching for nicotine dependence on the online version of ICD-10 does bring up F17.2, and the "green book" lists acute nicotine intoxication and withdrawal states to F17.0 and F17.3 (respectively); the index of the base classification has no entry for nicotine dependence and no cross reference to see tobacco, nor is it an includes term at F17. It's confusing; not least because as a UK coder, this guidance exists. I'm also aware that CMS has renamed F17.2 from Mental and behavioural disorders due to use of tobacco, Dependence syndrome in the base classification, to Nicotine dependence in ICD-10-CM. Quite sensibly IMHO; however, the international version would take precedence in any discrepancy. Little pob (talk) 22:01, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Withdrawn double checking with the books in front of me; despite NHS Digital's claim to the contrary, volume three of ICD-10 does tell coders to "see Tobacco" at the Nicotine index trail. Little pob (talk) 08:24, 5 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Nicotine dependenceTobacco use disorder – Tobacco use disorder is the official name of nicotine dependence in the DSM-5. Nicotine dependence comes indirectly from the ICD-10. For other mental disorders, it appears to me that the DSM-5 name is the one used, not the name indirectly derived from the ICD-10, such as cannabis use disorder and stimulant use disorder (as opposed to cannabis dependence or stimulant dependence). • Oppose. Almost all sources I have read indicate it is called "Nicotine dependence".Therefore, nicotine dependence is the most common name. QuackGuru (talk) 02:15, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Good point. I think tobacco use disorder is a new term in the DSM-5 and thus is not widespread yet. Perhaps we could just include it as a synonym in the lede? Michipedian (talk) 06:07, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per QuackGuru, common name. I went ahead and added "tobacco use disorder" as an alternate name in the lead, per Michipedian. Randy Kryn (talk) 13:05, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, that satisfies my request. This can be closed, as far as I'm concerned. Michipedian (talk) 13:37, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
