Members' birthdates[edit]

@GimmeChoco44: My edit was reverted because I was told birthdates were more appropriate on individual member pages. However, none of the members have established independent notability outside of the band so they wouldn't have pages on here anyway. I think information, even if misplaced, is better than having no information at all. lullabying (talk) 03:37, 3 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The band members don't yet have individual pages, but the edits under discussion specifically affect the band page, so information should be focused on dates which directly connect to band activities.
Before reverting your edit, I looked at pages for other prominent bands (from both general rock and Japanese rock genres), and found no standard inclusion of birthdates. Ex: X Japan, Luna Sea, Glay, Rolling Stones, Aerosmith
Re: "better than no information at all" -- I'd refer to Wikipedia:Too much detail or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:What_Wikipedia_is_not#Wikipedia_is_not_an_indiscriminate_collection_of_information --GimmeChoco44 (talk) 04:00, 3 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@GimmeChoco44: There are other Japanese groups that list birthdates too, such as Silent Siren, Angerme, Cute (Japanese idol group), etc. I am fairly certain the standard is to not list their birthdates based on other articles I've read, but from my experience, one user will revert your edits if you remove birthdates. lullabying (talk) 15:53, 6 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@GimmeChoco44: Hey, sorry, not to bug you, but I didn't really get a response regarding this situation. Other bands and groups list birthdates for members, especially ones not notable enough to have individual articles, such as Silent Siren, Lovendor, etc. Other music groups (especially Japanese idols) have birthdates listed on their pages, like Angerme, Cute (Japanese idol group), and Berryz Kobo. But then I notice that South Korean idols don't list birthdates either... ideally it would be nice to have some sort of uniform format so that it'd be less confusing. lullabying (talk) 16:38, 15 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Lullabying:You're totally right about the need for a unified format, but we're a long way from that when it comes to Japanese music entries. The "encyclopedic" level of any artist article is usually dependent on their mainstream Western audience awareness. Most English-version artist pages are maintained by hardcore fans, who will sometimes favor including that trivia as demonstration of a complete range of information.
My benchmark has been articles on films vs. articles on individual directors and actors. Daniel Radcliffe and Ralph Fiennes are both members of the Harry Potter film ensembles, but their birthdates are only listed on their solo pages, not their film pages. @GimmeChoco44: All right, I'll agree to your proposition of keeping birthdates off group articles. I started removing some birthdates from group articles that I'm currently considered an active editor on. I've tried removing birthdates (as well as member colors) from Japanese music articles, but I've had my edits reverted by the editors of those pages. I also tried asking WP:WikiProject Musicians about it to get a more unified response. lullabying (talk) 18:19, 15 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose to deleting members' birthdays. That's all I'm going to say right now. If you don't like their birthdays listed, you will need to start a wider discussion. I will need a consensus to prohibit all band articles to list birthdays. At present time we have articles like "Little Mix' that have (more or less) full details on members. --Moscow Connection (talk) 01:15, 5 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
