These appear to be restructurings of the same basic organization with the same mission and ratings system. Both articles will likely be improved by providing a more continuous history. Daask (talk) 01:02, 10 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Support merge of USCCB Office to Legion of Decency. Yes, that is an accurate summation. It would be better served in a "Successor" section to the NLD. Etzedek24 (I'll talk at ya) (Check my track record) 02:12, 10 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification required[edit]

This article needs rewriting as the second paragraph of the lead section doesn't appear to cohere with the "United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' Office for Film and Broadcasting" section.

  1. Did "NCOMP" stand for "National Catholic Office for Motion Pictures" (lead section) or "of Motion Pictures" (later section)?
  2. Was the NCOMP established in 1965 (lead section) or 1960 (later section)? Why in the latter case is it said to have been "re-established" when no prior existence thereof has been indicated?
  3. Why does the lead section say the NCOMP changed the rating system in 1978 before folding in 1980 but the later section say that the NCOMP, having become the Office of Film and Broadcasting at some point and merged with the National Catholic Office for Radio and Television in 1980, continued to use the Legion's rating system until 2010?

National Catholic Office for Motion Pictures (NCOMP)[edit]

Anyone watching National Legion of Decency might like to look at the closely-related article National Catholic Office for Motion Pictures (NCOMP). -- John of Reading (talk) 09:36, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

New Additions for May 2021[edit]

I wanted to make everyone aware of some changes that I will be making to this article. I will be adding a section about the Legion's history from the 1930s to the 1960s. Although this article does already contain a lot of information about the Legion and the Church's involvement in film censorship, there is no section within this article that concretely explains what the Legion was able to accomplish and when. I will be consulting reputable and balanced sources in my work, and many of the sources I am consulting are sources that have been used by other authors on this page. During my editing, I will also be making some copy edits (ex. church should be Church when referring to the Catholic Church) and changing some phrasing to make language either more neutral or more understandable to the reader.Ccoyle1231 (talk) 15:15, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

With respect, I suggest that much of the material under "Censorship in Early American cinema" would be better suited to Film censorship in the United States as it appears to deal substantially with legal cases regarding government action, which is not the situation here; and for the most part cases that arose after the establishment of the Legion of Decency. I completely agree with you. I just didn't want to take away material that was already present in the article. Ccoyle1231 (talk) 15:41, 8 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
