Regarding the Aramaic Origin of Brahmi[edit]

I am aware that it is most commonly accepted that Brahmi is descended from a foreign script, with Aramaic as the most widely held one. However, there are proponents of other foreign scripts as having influenced Brahmi, such as the Greek-Semitic Model, or the Trans-Cultural diffusion hypothesis which posits that the idea of writing may have been transmitted to the Indians who later developed their own script (thus an influence rather than a direct evolution from Aramaic script).

So I wonder if it would be good to include a note in the infobox as older versions had done, stating that "Though it is the consensus held by most scholars, the Aramaic origin of the Brahmic scripts is not universally agreed upon.", as otherwise the current one gives WP:UNDUE weight to Aramaic as the exclusive origin to Brahmi.

What I am not suggesting is to promote a WP:FRINGE theory such as Brahmi being a direct descendent of the IVC script, as there is over a millenium gap between the use of these two scripts and so it is highly unlikely for there to be any relation between the two. Rather, I feel the uncertainty regarding Aramaic as the exclusive ancestor to Brahmi should be acknowledged. SwiftChronicle (talk) 17:08, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
