Selection of Modern bands and Modern classical composers

Out of curiosity, what are the criteria for selecting the bands/composers as famous or well-known? Is there a citation for Sunleif Rasmussen being "until now" the only Faroese known to have written a symphony as well as specifying what time is mean by now?
